2017 Pac-12 Pole Vault Third-Place
2019: Scored at the Pac-12 Championships once again in his final season, as he finished seventh at the conference meet with a clearance of 16-5 1/2 … third in the invite section at the Stanford Invitational with a make of 16-3 1/4 … cleared 16-6 at the UW-WSU Dual for fourth-place … indoors, matched his career-best with a make of 16-11 1/2 at the UW Invitational … fourth at the Husky Classic, clearing 16-0 3/4.
2018: Scored once again at both conference championships indoors and out and advanced to a second NCAA West Preliminaries in the pole vault … got a second straight top-five finish at the Pac-12 Championships, as he took fifth in the vault at 16-6 ½ … tied for 30th at the NCAA West Prelims with a make of 15-11 … took second at the Trojan Invitational with an outdoor season-best make of 16-8 ¾ … second at the UW-WSU Dual with a clearance of 16-5 ¼ … also cleared 16-5 ¼ for second at the Ken Shannon Invitational … indoors, had a new indoor PR of 16-11 ½ at the Husky Classic to take second … tied for eighth at the MPSF Championships by going 16-4 ¾ … made 16-8 at the UW Invitational for fifth-place … earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
2017: Had his most successful season to date, making the podium at the Pac-12 Championships and making the 17-foot mark for the first time … the top scorer for the Dawgs in the pole vault at Pac-12s, finishing third with a clearance of 16-3 ½ … advanced to his first NCAA West Prelims and cleared 16-10 ¾ to tie for 25th overall … had a new PR of 17-0 ¾ at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate … won the Ken Shannon Invite with a make of 16-7 ½ … cleared 16-7 ¼ at the Texas Relays … indoors, took sixth at the MPSF Championships with a make of 15-11 ¾ … won the SPU Final Qualifier with a season-best of 16-9 ½ … named a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
2016: Set new PRs indoors and out in his first full season … outdoors jumped a best of 16-7 ½ in the vault at the Pac-12 vs. Big Ten Invite in Tempe, taking third … also cleared 16-6 ¾ at the Mt. SAC Relays … third at the Ken Shannon Invite with a make of 16-0 ¾ … indoors, tied for 16th at the MPSF Championships at 15-10 … new indoor PR of 16-8 came at the Husky Classic … a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.
2015: Redshirted the season, competing several times unattached in the pole vault … ended his season competing at the U.S. Junior Championships in Eugene, finishing eighth with a clearance of 16-0 ¾ that matched his PR … also cleared 16-0 ¾ unattached at the Ken Shannon Invitational … indoors, competed four times, with a best make of 15-11 ¾ at the Husky Classic, placing ninth.
High School and Personal: Born in Anchorage, Alaska … parents are Robin and William Black … has one younger brother, Jarrod … the Washington 2A state pole vault champion as a senior in 2014 … jumped a PR of 15-6 to win the Northwest Conference title and then matched that at the state meet … also finished fifth in the pole vault at state as a junior and fourth as a sophomore … named a Whatcom All-County Athlete in 2013 and 2014 … also lettered three years in football and four years in wrestling … won 2012 wrestling Hardest Worker award and the 2014 Phil Millard Character Award in football … an Eagle Scout … graduated with a 3.72 GPA.
