2020-21 (Track): Set a Freshman Record in the 1,500-meters in his first outdoor race, going 3:41.29 at the Raleigh Relays … qualified for the NCAA West Prelims but did not compete … was ninth in the Pac-12 Championships in the 800-meters in 1:50.19 … an 800m season-best of 1:49.23 to take third at the UW-WSU Dual … indoors, went to No. 10 in school history as the 11th sub-four-minute miler in school history in his lone indoor race, going 3:59.53 at the UW Indoor Preview.
High School and Personal: Born in Boulder, Colorado … parents are Alan and Shayne Culpepper, both of whom are two-time U.S. Olympians in track and field … Alan Culpepper was an NCAA Champion at Colorado who went on to run the 5,000-meters at the 2000 Olympics and the marathon at the 2004 Olympics … Shayne (Wille) Culpepper also graduated from Colorado and made the 2000 Olympics in the 1,500-meters and the 2004 Olympics in the 5,000-meters … the oldest of four brothers, followed by Levi, Rocco, and Chase … one of the top recruits in the country and one of the top high school milers in history even without a senior season due to the Covid pandemic … ran a mile PR indoors at UW’s Dempsey in February of 2020, diving over the line to finish in 4:00.10 … that was the third-fastest mile time for a 17-year-old ever … won the Colorado 4A state cross country title as a junior and a senior … was 20th at the 2019 Nike Cross Nationals as a senior … set an 800m best of 1:48.50 in June of 2020 at an open meet in Arizona … as a junior, won the 800-meter 1,600-meter state titles on the track … took second in the mile at the 2019 Music City Distance Carvinal as a junior running 4:04.82 … also played tennis in high school and took third at state in doubles.
