Hana Moll New World No. 1 In Pole Vault

SEATTLE – Washington Track & Field now features the world's No. 1-ranked women's pole vaulter, as Hana Moll has ascended to the top spot of the World Athletics Rankings. Moll just wrapped up a brilliant summer season in Europe, winning three consecutive Diamond League meets including the overall championship, then taking silver at the inaugural World Ultimate Championships.

Moll jumped from No. 6 in the previous World Athletics Rankings up to the top spot. Twin sister Amanda Moll is ranked No. 12 after taking most of the summer off following her NCAA Outdoor title. Rankings are not just based on best marks, but according to the World Athletics website, are "points based on a combination of result and place depending on the level of the competition in which the result is achieved. The ranking is then based on their average score over a certain number of competitions in a defined period of time."

At the World Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Moll tied the winning height of 16-0 1/4 cleared by fellow American Sandi Morris, but Morris made it on her second attempt and Moll cleared on her third, which was the only difference between the win and the silver.

Moll cleared the 16-foot mark three times this summer, something she had done just once before, back in January at the UW Invitational in her only home appearance in the Dempsey this year.

Her new lifetime-best came in the victory at the Diamond League Championships in Brussels, Belgium, where she made 16-1 1/4 or 4.91-meters to beat the elite field. That new PR tied her to the centimeter with twin sister Amanda Moll, as both are tied for No. 9 in world history.

Moll is the first collegiate undergrad to win the Diamond League. She previously won Diamond League competitions in Lausanne and Zurich, Switzerland, to qualify for the finals.
