GETTING TO KNOW BROCK GILLIS
Β
WHY BROCK LOVES BASEBALL:Β Anything can happen in baseball and it constantly requires giving your best effort. Iβve never felt as focused as I do when Iβm on the field. Itβs also a very good display of character for those who play.
Β
WHY WASHINGTON:Β Iβve always loved the Huskies because I grew up near Seattle and theyβve always shown great pride. Learning about their amazing baseball program and top-tier education persuaded me even more to want to go to Washington.
Β
GREATEST BASEBALL MEMORY:Β Hitting my first home run as a 10 year old.
Β
FAVORITE PLAYER:Β I love the way Max Scherzer competes and his unique style of pitching.
Β
Coach Meggs on Gillis:Β Brock continues the trend of arms in this class with true projection.Β Β And along with having weekend stuff, both right-handed and left-handed hitters struggle with Brockβs arm angle.Β Β His fastball and his slider are especially tough on right-handed hitters, but even the left handers struggle with the arm slot.Β When you combine the feel for three pitches and the deception involved in Brockβs delivery, we think Brock can be effective as both a starter and out of the pen.Β Β
