GETTING TO KNOW COLE FONTENELLE
WHY COLE LOVES BASEBALL: It gives me an opportunity to compete head to head with an opponent and there is no greater feeling in the world than squaring a ball up perfectly.
WHY WASHINGTON: I felt that I would be developed as a person and a player by the coaches, the facilities and resources were the best that I’d seen, and I wanted to compete against some of the best players in the country.
FAVORITE PLAYER: Ichiro: His work ethic and his ability to put up insane numbers every year inspired me. I am also of Japanese descent.
Coach Meggs on Fontenelle: Cole is a 6-foot-3 switch-hitting infielder from Skyline High School who we believe is the most accomplished hitter in his class in the state of Washington. With Cole’s ability to hit the ball out of the ballpark and drive in runs, I expect him to come in and compete for at bats immediately. And while Cole is certainly an offensive player, he has a chance to be a solid corner infielder as well. With all that said, we think Cole will be an impact guy the minute he gets here.
