EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Washington women's basketball team (12-5, 3-2 Big Ten) fought hard against a tough 20th-ranked Michigan State squad, but the Spartans pulled away to win 80-68 and snap the Huskies' five-game winning streak.
The Spartans (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten) outscored Washington in three quarters but the Huskies kept it close the entire time, dropping their first Big Ten road game.
Three Dawgs sparked UW on the offensive end, led by Sayvia Sellers who had her sixth 20-point game of the season, finishing with a game-high 21 points, two assists, three steals, and a block.
Elle Ladine added 17 for the Huskies, her 13th game this season in double figures, including her 800th career point. Ladine reached the milestone midway through the second quarter on a left wing three-pointer off an assist from Hannah Stines.
Stines chipped in 11 points, all of them coming in the first half, to go along with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. This was the junior's eighth game this season with 10+ in the scoring column.
Dalayah Daniels scored six points, all in the fourth quarter, and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds which included six on the offensive glass. Sunday marked Daniels' fourth straight game with 10+ boards.
Brenna McDonald matched a season-high six points in 14 minutes off the bench, while adding two assists and a rebound.
The Huskies jumped out to a 10-2 lead early in the first, capped by a triple from Stines. The Spartans responded with a 7-0 run of their own to cut that lead down to one and outscore the Huskies 22-18 in the opening frame.
Washington edged Michigan State 17-14 in the second quarter, with eight of Washington's 17 coming at the hands of Stines.
Ladine notched 11 of her 17 in the third quarter alone, including going 4-for-4 at the free throw line as the Huskies shot 18-for-19 overall from the charity stripe (94.7 percent).
The Huskies kept the Spartan lead to single digits in the fourth quarter, but Michigan State gained separation late in the fourth to pull away with the victory.
