
Washington Women’s Basketball Takes Down Minnesota, 67-54

SEATTLE — The Washington women's basketball team (14-4, 4-3 Big Ten) held Minnesota to its lowest point total of the season in a 67-54 win Sunday afternoon at Alaska Airlines Arena.
The Huskies were dominant in the paint, recording 44 of their points down low and outrebounding the Golden Gophers 37–33. UW recorded 15 assists and seven steals against Minnesota. The Golden Gophers connected on just 39.3 percent of their shots.
Sayvia Sellers led Washington with 23 points and four assists, with help from Hannah Stines who scored 11 points.
Elle Ladine, Yulia Grabovskaia, and Brynn McGaughy all delivered eight points, while Avery Howell added another six.
Washington opened the game attacking the paint, with Grabovskaia, Sellers, and Stines scoring the first six points with layups. The Huskies recorded 10 rebounds in the first period, with three of them coming on the offensive end of the floor.
The Huskies used 17 points in the second quarter to take the lead — one they would not relinquish for the remainder of the afternoon. Washington knocked down 7 of its 11 shots, with Sellers delivering six points on two field goals and two free throws. Minnesota managed just 10 points and did not connect on a 3-pointer.
Washington's best scoring quarter came in the third, with Ladine scoring all of her points in the frame. She used a 3-pointer to lead the Huskies with eight, while Howell collected four of her team-leading 12 rebounds in the quarter. Sellers dished out three assists and recorded seven points, and McGaughy added another six points.
From there, the Huskies closed out the afternoon with another excellent defensive performance — holding the Golden Gophers to only 10 points in the fourth quarter. Only two players from the visiting side scored a point in the frame. Sellers added another five points to finish the day as the leading scorer.
Howell matched Sellers' assist total with four, while Stines collected seven boards. Ladine added another six rebounds and notched three of Washington's seven steals.
Up next, Washington will host Penn State on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6:00 p.m. in Alaska Airlines Arena. The game will be televised on B1G+.
