SEATTLE – Washington heads to a familiar setting for conference championship weekend, but the competition is decidedly bigger. For the first time, the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships are descending on Eugene and Hayward Field. The Huskies will vie for titles against their old and new rivals this Friday through Sunday, May 16-18.
The trio of championship weekends will take the Huskies from Eugene for Big Tens, to College Station, Texas for NCAA West Prelims, then back to Eugene for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 11-14.
Live coverage will be provided on Big Ten Plus/Runnerspace, and Big Ten Network. Friday and Saturday will be streamed on Big Ten Plus as well as Runnerspace. On Sunday, the field events will be covered on Big Ten Plus/Runnerspace, while the finals on the track will be televised on Big Ten Network starting at 12:30 p.m.
This will be UW's second taste of B1G Track action this year, after their first indoor championships back on Feb. 28-Mar. 1. Both Husky squads had top-five finishes indoors, with the men finishing fourth out of the 15 teams, and the women placing fifth out of 17 squads.
The Dawgs had six individual titles indoors, tied with Oregon for the second-most behind the eight from USC. The women had wins from Chloe Foerster at 800-meters, Amina Maatoug at 3,000-meters, and Amanda Moll in the pole vault. The men got titles from Scott Toney in the pole vault, Nathan Green in the 3,000-meters, and in the distance medley relay from Leo Daschbach, Bodi Ligons, Cole Lindhorst, and Green.
Limits on individual entries per team per event add an element of strategy into the competition, as women's teams are limited to four entries per event, and the men are limited to five per event.
