Dawgs Defeat Ducks On Senior Day In Final Game Of Regular Season
March 02, 2025 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – On an emotional Senior Day afternoon inside Alaska Airlines Arena, the Washington women's basketball team (18-12, 9-9 Big Ten) concluded the 2024-25 regular season with a 64-56 win over Oregon.
UW honored seniors Dalayah Daniels, Tayra Eke, and Brenna McDonald Sunday afternoon during a pregame ceremony as friends and family walked each of them out onto the floor to receive framed jerseys and flowers from the team.
Four Dawgs notched double digits in the Husky win, led by Sayvia Sellers and Elle Ladine each with 15 points on the afternoon.
Daniels added 13 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists, and four blocks, including her 200th career blocked shot.
Chloe Briggs added 10 points, five boards, two rebounds, an assist, and a block.
Washington got out to a slow offensive start, outscored by Oregon 19-12 in the opening frame. The Dawgs kickstarted the second quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 21-19 advantage and force an Oregon timeout.
The Dawgs went on another 7-0 run a few minutes later, extending the UW lead to 33-26 while holding the Ducks scoreless the last 2:40 of the half.
Daniels (9) and Sellers (8) combined for 17 of the Huskies' 21 in the second quarter as Washington limited Oregon to 11 second quarter points to go up 33-30 at halftime.
Seven of Briggs' 10 points came in the third, including an electric four-point play that ignited 4,813 fans inside Hec Ed.
After allowing 19 first quarter points, the Huskies limited Oregon to no more than 13 in each of the next three.
Neither team could find much offense in the final minutes of the fourth as UW and Oregon traded free throws down the stretch. Six of the Dawgs' 15 points in the fourth quarter came at the charity stripe, led by Ladine (4-4) and Daniels (2-2) each knocking down free throws in clutch moments.
Washington outscored the Ducks 26-10 in the paint and converted 16 Oregon turnovers into 19 points.
The Huskies connected on a season-high 56 percent of their shots from beyond the arc (9-of-16), the second straight game shooting above a 50 percent clip from range.
The Dawgs finish the season on a four-game winning streak before No. 12 seed Washington will head to Indianapolis for a Big Ten Tournament first round matchup with No. 13 seed Minnesota on Wednesday, March 5.
First round action will be aired on Peacock with game one between the Huskies and the Gophers tipping off at 12:30 p.m. PT Wednesday.
The winner of the first round game will advance to play No. 5 seed Michigan Thursday.
