February 16, 2025 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – After a strong second half push and holding USC to a season-low 23 first half points, the Washington women's basketball team (14-12, 5-9 Big Ten) fell to the 6th-ranked Trojans Sunday, 69-64.
7,913 fans packed inside Alaska Airlines Arena to see the Huskies' third game against a ranked opponent at home. The crowd was the second largest Washington has seen this season.
The Trojans' 69 points is tied for the second fewest by USC this season. The two times USC (23-2, 13-1 Big Ten) scored 69 or fewer prior to Sunday's game came in its two losses. USC's 23 first half points is also the fewest it's been held to this season.
Four Huskies delivered double digits, led by Sayvia Sellers with her second straight 20+ game.
Sellers connected on 10-of-21 shots, four three pointers, while also recording three assists and two rebounds.
Elle Ladine had 11 of her own to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
Hannah Stines and Dalayah Daniels each added 10 and Chloe Briggs notched seven points and six boards in her sixth start of the season.
Five Dawgs pulled down four or more rebounds on the way to outrebounding USC 37-33. USC entered tonight's game leading the league in rebounding with 42.4 a game.
UW's 37 included a season-high 10 from Stines, who recorded her first career double-double.
Briggs and Daniels each ripped down six, Ladine had five, and Tayra Eke had four boards, two assists, and two points off the bench.
Washington pushed for a narrow lead after one, ending the first 10 minutes of play on top 15-14. Both teams struggled offensively in the second, with USC balancing things out and tying the game 23-23 at halftime.
UW scored 41 second half points, but it wasn't enough to hold off a USC 30-point fourth quarter.
The Huskies outscored the Trojans 20-16 in the third before Sellers exploded offensively, registering 17 of her game-high 24 points in the final frame. The point guard provided Washington 17 of its 21 in the quarter, connecting on 7-of-10 shots and three triples in the final 10.
