November 03, 2025 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE — Washington women's basketball (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) opened the 2025-26 season with a decisive 90-43 win over Seattle U (0-1, 0-0 WCC) Monday night in Alaska Airlines Arena.
The 47-point victory was the largest margin of victory in series history and was driven by a combination of steady production from the returners and impressive debuts from the newcomers.
Avery Howell made a statement in her first Washington start, knocking down three 3-pointers over her first three shots. She finished the night perfect from the field, hitting all five of her shots — including four from behind the arc. Her 18 points ties a career high.
Sayvia Sellers was the leading scorer for the Huskies and was in double-digits before halftime. Sellers added six assists, with her third assist marking the 200th of her career.
Newcomers Yulia Grabovskaia, Brynn McGaughy, Nina Cain, and Sienna Harvey joined Howell in making their Husky debuts. Harvey was impressive in her first collegiate appearance, finishing the night with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field.
11 Washington players recorded at least a bucket, and every Husky recorded at least one rebound.
UW began to take control of the night with a 26-10 second quarter advantage and opened the second half with four consecutive lay-ups.
The Huskies shot 52.2% from the field and 37.5% from behind the 3-point line, while recording an assist on over half of their shots.
Defensively, Washington locked down Seattle U, who shot just 28.3% from the field. The Redhawks managed no more than 13 points in any quarter, and the Huskies recorded 11 steals and nine blocks.
UW returns to the floor on Monday, Nov. 10 to take on Montana at 6:00 p.m. PT in Alaska Airlines Arena.
