
Bahamas Finale Ends In Husky Win Over Southern

NASSAU, Bahamas – The Washington women's basketball team (7-2, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated Southern on Wednesday in the final game of the Pink Flamingo Championship, 61-43.
Four Huskies scored in double digits, led by a season-high 18 points from Hannah Stines who shot 70 percent from the field (7-of-10). The junior matched a career-best six assists to go along with four rebounds in 38 minutes of action.
Stines was named to the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship All-Tournament Team. She averaged 15 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds while shooting 54.5 percent through two games in the Bahamas.
Stines was selected All-Tournament along with Kailyn Gilbert (LSU), Saniya Rivers (NC State), Aniya Gourdine (Southern), and Aneesah Morrow (LSU, MVP).
After a career game just a few days ago against the 7th-ranked LSU Tigers, Sayvia Sellers delivered again for the Dawgs with 11 points, including three three-pointers, for her third straight double-digit game.
Elle Ladine and Dalayah Daniels each added 10. Ladine neared a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, her third game with 9+ rebounds this season.
Daniels was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field as she recorded her sixth 10+ point game, pulling down four rebounds and a block.
Tayra Eke came close to a double-double as well, notching eight points and a season-high 11 rebounds as well as four blocks.
Chloe Briggs chipped in 20 minutes off the bench, notching four points, three rebounds, and a career-best five assists.
The Dawgs got off to a hot start in the first quarter, jumping out to a 24-12 lead and limiting Southern to just 20 percent shooting in the first.
Washington was hitting from just about everywhere in the first 10 minutes of action, connecting on 8-of-12 field goals (66.7 percent) and draining five triples.
Stines got the offense started for UW, driving in for a right-handed layup to get the Dawgs on the board.
Southern hit the first shot of the game but the Huskies responded with a 13-0 run, capped off by a Stines triple.
Washington and Southern traded buckets through the second and the third, keeping things even at 10-10 in the second and outscoring Southern by one in the third frame.
The Huskies delivered big in the fourth, limiting the Jaguars to just nine fourth quarter points. Washington ended the game on a 14-0 run in the final 4 minutes and 30 seconds while holding Southern scoreless through the last 5:15.
UW held the Jaguars to their lowest field goal percentage so far this season, as Southern connected on just 15-of-66 from the field (22.7 percent).
The Dawgs will play next at home against the No. 1 UCLA Bruins on Sunday, Dec. 8. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena for Washington's first Big Ten test.
