SEATTLE - After playing one home match in the first six weeks of the season, the Husky volleyball team gets to play inside Alaska Airlines Arena four times in a 10-day span. Washington will look to take advantage of its home court starting this Friday, Oct. 11, with Oregon State and followed by Oregon this Sunday, Oct. 13. The match against the Ducks will be Three Stripe Sunday, with Rally Towels for the first 200 fans and other promotions.
First serve on Friday night against Beavers is 7 p.m. and on Sunday against the Ducks the match gets underway at 2 p.m. Both matches will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
Washington's one home match is the fewest in the Pac-12 and the Huskies and Colorado are the only conference teams yet to play a Pac-12 home match. After playing 13 of their first 14 matches away from home, from this point on the Huskies get 10 of their final 16 matches in Seattle.
Last week the Huskies split their trip to Los Angeles, falling in four sets at USC but bouncing back with a four set win at UCLA to go to 2-2 in conference and 11-3 on the year. The Huskies dropped three spots in the AVCA coaches poll this week to No. 11, but debuted high in the first NCAA RPI rankings at No. 4, evidence of UW's tough road through nonconference play.
Oregon State is also 2-2 to start conference play and 8-7 on the season. The Beavers opened Pac-12 with a big 3-2 win over the rival Ducks, and then won at home against Colorado. Last week the Beavers lost at home to both No. 19 Cal and No. 3 Stanford. Oregon State is hitting .208 for the year and opponents are hitting .203. Maddie Goings leads the team with 2.96 kills per set but five different Beavers are averaging between two and three kills per set, as Amy Underdown had 11 kills to lead OSU vs. Stanford and Chloe Brown had a match-high 11 against Cal. Lindsey Schell averages 1.20 blocks per set and Serena Bruin adds 1.12. Libero Grace Massey posts 4.24 digs per set. The Huskies won a five setter over OSU last year in their only meeting but the Beavers ended a long drought againt the Huskies with two 3-2 wins back in 2017.
Oregon has battled some injury issues to go 5-8 thus far and 1-3 in Pac-12 play but its one win was over the 18th-ranked Utes and four of Oregon's losses have come to Top-10 opponents. Oregon is led by senior All-American Ronika Stone who leads the team in kills as a middle blocker, posting 3.28 per set, and hitting .359. Senior All-American Willow Johnson adds 3.03 kills per set hitting .276 and is serving tough with 0.44 aces per set. Sophomore Brooke Nuneviller also averages 3.24 kills per set and leads the team in digs with 3.14. Kylie Robinson sets the squad with 10.8 assists per set. The Ducks are hitting .238 compared to .211 for opponents. Oregon won a five setter against the Huskies last season with UW last winning both matches in 2017.
