
Dawgs Fall In Season Finale In New Jersey

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Washington Volleyball ended its 2025 season with a four set loss at Rutgers inside the College Avenue Gym. The Huskies finish the season with a 13-17 record overall and an 8-12 mark in Big Ten play.
UW had slow starts in each of the first two sets, rallying out of sizable deficits both times to take late one-point leads, but both times the home team responded to win each set, 25-22. Washington stayed alive with a 25-23 third set win, but Rutgers finished things off in set four, 25-20.
Four Huskies played their final matches in purple. Seniors Elise Hani, Zoria Heard, Alexa Markley, and Taylor Simpson all bid farewell.
Markley capped her one season as a Dawg with a phenomenal effort, as she had a team-leading 15 kills, hitting .448 with a career-high seven blocks and an ace. Heard had 14 digs in her final match as the Husky libero, and Hani had two kills and four blocks.
Washington outhit Rutgers overall for the match, .222 to .208, yet Rutgers had a 59-46 advantage in kills, and hurt the Huskies from the service line with 12 aces. Washington had 11 blocks compared to 8 for Rutgers and the Scarlet Knights had three more digs (54-41).
Kierstyn Barton had 14 kills and seven digs with three blocks. Simona Mateska had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs, and Alexis Haury had 39 assists and 12 digs for a double-double of her own. Katy Wessels had two aces along with six blocks.
UW will be unable to make the NCAA tournament this season due to finishing under .500 for the year.
