Huskies Finish Regular Season With Apple Cup
October 30, 2017 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies wrap up their regular season this week hosting the Washington State Cougars in the annual Apple Cup competition. The Huskies and Cougars will play on Friday, November 3 at 7:00 pm. The game will also be Senior Day for the Huskies as Washington honors Sarah Shimer, Dominique Bond-Flasza, Rachel Wheeler, Shannon Simon, Amanda Perez, Kimberly Keever, Lauren Conley, Shaye Villanueva, and Ava Lewis. More on all the Husky seniors is available below.
The Huskies fell to Arizona and Arizona State on the road last week, moving their record to 9-8-2 on the year. Keever scored her sixth goal of the season, giving her three years of six or more goals and 22 goals in her career. That total puts her tied for fifth in Washington history, tied with Caroline Putz. Keever has now matched her career-high in points as well with 14 this season.
Shimer made eight saves over two games last weekend for the Huskies and now has 74 saves on the year. The senior goalie is second in the Pac-12 in saves now and tied for first in the conference in shutouts with ten. With one more shutout, Shimer will set a new Husky record for most shutouts in a single season. She has already tied Kelsey Rasmussen's mark set in 2004.
A win Friday would give the Huskies ten wins this season, making it the third time in four years that Washington has had double-digit wins. Washington has six seasons of at least ten wins in the last nine years.
The Washington State Cougars come to Seattle with a 9-7-2 record on the season and a 4-6-0 mark in Pac-12 play. The Cougars have alternated wins and losses over their last five games, going 2-3-0 in that time. Last week, the Cougars beat Arizona State 1-0 before falling to Arizona 0-1.
Washington State leads the all-time series against the Huskies 11-7-6. Washington's last win in the series came in 2003, a 2-0 triumph in Seattle. Five of the last eight games between these two teams have gone to overtime, with four of those ending in ties.
