SEATTLE – The UW Invitational and Mile City take over the Dempsey this Friday and Saturday as Husky track and field looks to keep building momentum during the second of three home meet weeks. Friday's UW Invitational begins at 10 a.m. and will last until around 7 p.m., and Saturday's Mile City meet gets going at 9 a.m. and runs until approximately 6 p.m.
In the first rankings heat-check by the USTFCCCA last week, the Husky women's team opened up at No. 15 nationally and the men held down the No. 16 spot. But many UW athletes are still to contest their primary events and this weekend will help bring things further into focus.
The UW Invitational will feature a full slate of running events with the key exception of the mile races, which will be the focal point of Saturday. Saturday it will be all miles, all day long on the track. The four top-seeded invitational mile heats on Saturday will start at 1:45 p.m.
A few key field events will take place during Mile City on Saturday: the men's and women's top flights of the pole vault, and the triple jump. Those events will all feature multiple Huskies, including NCAA Champions Amanda and Hana Moll in their 2026 season debuts in the women's pole vault, and NCAA leading James Rhoads in the men's pole vault. All other field events will be held on Friday, including B-flights of the pole vaults and triple jumps.
This is the third year of "Mile City," a special event that will see hundreds of men and women, from youth to masters athletes, beginners to professionals and the best in the NCAA, run five-plus laps around the Dempsey to chase PRs.
The Dempsey has built a reputation over more than 20 years as the place to break four minutes in the mile in the U.S. and one of the best venues in the world. There have been 368 sub-four miles in the building since it opened in 2002, by 232 different men. Last year's Mile City saw Nathan Green set the UW School Record at 3:50.74, fastest ever in the Dempsey to that point, as a total of 18 men went under the four-minute barrier.
UW's recent run of success in the mile has been nothing short of dominant. Green, Joe Waskom and Luke Houser captured six of the past seven NCAA mile or 1,500-meter titles on the men's side, while Sophie O'Sullivan claimed the women's NCAA 1,500m title last spring, and Chloe Foerster and Amina Maatoug both finished in the top-six in the 2025 NCAA Indoor women's mile final.
Both meets will be live streamed by RunnerSpace.com. General admission is $12 per day or $20 for the weekend.
