Stines’ Career-High 28 Points Steers Dawgs Past Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Sparked by a career-high from Hannah Stines and a 60 percent shooting clip, the Washington women's basketball team (14-9, 5-6 Big Ten) defeated Penn State (10-13, 1-11 Big Ten), 82-71 inside the Bryce Jordan Center on Wednesday.
Hannah Stines made it rain from start to finish, connecting on 11-of-18 from the field and four three-pointers on the way to a career-high 28 points.
The junior also added seven rebounds, four assists, a block, and a steal.
Elle Ladine notched 20 points for her seventh 20+-point game of her junior campaign, delivering on 9-of-15 shooting. She added three assists, two rebounds, and a steal.
In her third start of the season, Chloe Briggs reached double digits for the second time this year, adding 12 points (4-of-6 shooting), five rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
Sayvia Sellers and Dalayah Daniels each added nine points for Washington.
In 20 minutes off the bench, Brenna McDonald added four points, three rebounds, and a career-high five assists.
The Huskies shot 60.4 percent on the night, including over 69 percent in the first (9-of-13) and third (9-of-13) quarters. This marked the second time this season Washington shot above 60 percent and just the third time since 2020.
Washington's defense held Penn State to 11 percent shooting from three, as the Nittany Lions connected on one of nine from behind the arc.
The Dawgs also assisted 24 times on 32 field goals, the second most dimes for Washington this season.
UW jumped out to a 26-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, connecting on nearly 70 percent of its shots on the way to a 19-4 Husky run over the last 5:04 of the frame.
Penn State gained some momentum in the second, but the Huskies maintained a four-point lead at halftime.
Washington shot 50 percent from three in the first half (6-of-12). The Huskies recorded 21 fast break points and outrebounded PSU 24-21. The Dawgs led by as many as 19 late in the fourth.
The Huskies return to Seattle for one game at home against No. 16 Maryland on Sunday, Feb. 9 for Washington's National Girls & Women in Sports Day game, presented by BECU. The action will begin at 1 p.m. on B1G+.
