Huskies Send Ducks Running With 3-0 Sweep
October 31, 2025 | Volleyball
SEATTLE β The Huskies made Hec Ed a house of horrors tonight for the visiting Ducks, completing a season sweep over their rivals and a season set sweep as well. Washington (10-11, 5-6 Big Ten) started off the second half of Big Ten play with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-16 win over Oregon (13-8 4-7 Big Ten) in front of 2,413 fans on Halloween night.
Β
The Huskies earned their first season sweep over the Ducks since 2021, and first in two 3-0 results since all the way back to 2005.
"I felt like this was a great team win where a lot of people were firing," said Head Coach Leslie Gabriel. "Kierstyn had a great night. The middles; I was really proud of Elise, if people knew how hard she works behind the scenes every single day, even though she wasn't playing, and just to see her have a great night was really exciting for the team. I thought Katy did a great job blocking and had some nice eyework. Zoria did a great job in the back court again putting some balls on the mark for us so that our middles could be a part of the offense. Oregon has some great servers and Trent's doing a great job with his team, and we knew they were going to be tough, but we battled."
Β
From 23-22 up, UW grabbed the final two points of a tightly contested opening set, and then they made another late 6-1 run in the second set to go from a 19-18 lead, to the 25-19 win to take the 2-0 lead into the break. There would be no fear of an Oregon resuscitation as the Huskies hit a scorching .562 in the third set and used a 6-0 run at the midway point to break things open and put the final nail in the coffin.
Β
Washington tied its highest attack percentage in Big Ten play, hitting .372 which is also achieved in a sweep of Iowa. Oregon was held to just .117 tonight, thanks in part to eight Husky blocks and a 44-36 advantage in the digging department.
Β
Junior Kierstyn Barton led the balanced Husky attack, as she had 15 kills and hit .464, while Alexa Markley hit .320 with 11 kills. Junior middle Elise Hani had seven kills for the second-straight match, hitting .500 and sending back three blocks, while Katy Wessels had four kills on six swings without an error and had five blocks. Barton also shared the blocking lead with five assisted.
Β
Alexis Haury had the Huskies in rhythm as she had 40 assists tonight, a season-high for a three-setter. Zoria Heard and Barton both had 11 digs and Simona Mateska had nine digs, plus six kills.
Β
Up Next: For the second week in a row, UW has to go from a Friday night home match down to Los Angeles for a Sunday afternoon road battle. This week it's at Pauley Pavilion to meet UCLA for the first time this season, starting at 2 p.m.
