December 02, 2025 | Volleyball
SEATTLE – The Big Ten announced its volleyball postseason honors today, with Husky junior Kierstyn Barton earning First Team distinction, Zoria Heard named to the Second Team, and Elise Hani taking the Sportsmanship Award.
The conference honors were voted on by the Big Ten head coaches. Washington finished year two in the Big Ten in a tie for 10th-place in the 18 team league with a 8-12 conference record and a 13-17 overall mark.
Barton becomes the first Husky to earn All-Big Ten First Team honors. She was a Second Team selection last year. The junior from Chandler, Ariz. led the Huskies with 400 kills to become the first Husky to reach 400 in a season since Claire Hoffman in 2022. Barton also had 220 digs, making her one of just five players in the Big Ten with 400 kills and 200 digs. She reached double figures in kills in all but three matches this season.
Heard garners All-Big Ten Second Team distinction in her one year serving as the Husky libero. After playing as a DS last year in her first year at UW, Heard stepped into the libero role as a senior and finished second among all Big Ten players in digs per set with 3.80. The native of Rowlett, Texas was third overall in total digs with 437. In conference matches, Heard also was second overall with 3.88 digs per set. She ranked second on the squad in aces with 26 and third in assists with 96. Heard reached 1,000 career digs on Nov. 2 in a match that saw her set a career-high with 29 digs.
Hani was recognized as the UW recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The fourth-year redshirt junior is one of the team leaders and set an example each day in practice with her work ethic. After not seeing much action during the first half of the season, Hani stepped back into a starting role and started the final 12 matches of the season, turning in career-best numbers. She averaged a career-high 1.28 kills per set, hitting a career-best .265 with 0.92 blocks per set, also a career-best.
