Heard Sets Career-High, Hits 1k Digs In Loss

LOS ANGELES – Senior libero Zoria Heard continued her fantastic season with a career-high in digs, surpassing 1,000 career digs in the process, but the Husky offense could not get on track in a 3-1 loss to UCLA. Washington (10-12, 5-7 Big Ten) limited the Bruins to .124 hitting but only was able to hit .095 on its side of things, dropping a 20-25, 20-25, 25-20, 22-25 decision at Pauley Pavilion.
Heard racked up 29 digs to surpass her previous career-high of 27 from the Oct. 17 win over Penn State. That brought her career total to 1,006, with 523 of those at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in 2022-23, and now 483 and counting in her second season as a Dawg.
Freshman Simona Mateska led the Huskies in kills with 15, on 45 swings, hitting .222, adding seven digs, two blocks and an ace. Kierstyn Barton had 11 kills and 10 digs, hitting .093, and adding three blocks and one ace. Alexis Haury had a double-double as well with 29 assists and 14 digs.
Katy Wessels had seven blocks as UW had a 13 to 9 advantage in blocks, but UCLA led in digs (87-79) and had 10 more kills than the Huskies (55-45).
Up Next: Washington has a crucial homestand next week, hosting Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. followed by USC on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m.
