Washington Opens Husky Classic With Win Over North Dakota State

SEATTLE – The Washington women's basketball (8-4, 0-1 Big Ten) opened up the Husky Classic with a 64-51 win over North Dakota State (6-5, 0-0 Summit) on Wednesday afternoon inside Alaska Airlines Arena.
The Dawgs opened the game with authority, jumping out to a 22-6 lead over the Bison – with 16 of those coming in the paint -- at the end of the first quarter. Sayvia Sellers had nine of her game-high 18 points in the first.
The sophomore also finished with a game-high five assists and four rebounds in Washington's first ever matchup with North Dakota State.
Tayra Eke matched her season-high with her second straight 14-point performance, earning her first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. This was the 17th double-double of her career and first in a Washington uniform.
Dalayah Daniels was the third Husky in double figures, finishing with 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals in 28 minutes of action.
Elle Ladine added eight points and four assists.
North Dakota State's six points in the opening frame was the second fewest the Dawgs have given up in a quarter this season, who played an aggressive switching defense that proved effective against NDSU.
The Bison's 15 first half points matched the fewest points allowed in a half by Washington this year. The Huskies held NDSU to zero three-pointers in the first half (and two total) and just 22.2 percent shooting.
The Huskies scored 19 points off 19 North Dakota State turnovers, 13 of those turnovers coming in the first half of play.
North Dakota State's 51 points was the fewest it's scored this season as the Bison were averaging 70.8 points per game entering tonight's game.
The Dawgs will take on Furman tomorrow to conclude the Husky Classic at 2 p.m.
