January 09, 2024 | Women's Basketball
CHICAGO, Ill. – Washington women's basketball 2024 signee Devin Coppinger has been named to the list of 2024 McDonald's All American Games Nominees.
Coppinger signed her National Letter of Intent with the Huskies on November 8, and in mid-November was named to the 2023-24 Jersey Mike's Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year Watch List.
The high school standout is one of 724 girls and boys basketball players from around the country named. She is one of three girls from the state of Washington to be nominated. The state of Washington has a total of five nominees for both girls and boys.
"This moment is really a culmination of the hard work each of these athletes have put into this game – all those long hours on the court, in the gym and classroom," said Joe Wootten, McDonald's All American Games Selection Committee Chairman. "My father, Morgan Wootten, co-founded this game over four decades ago, giving high school athletes a national platform to showcase their skills on the biggest stage. It means so much to me and my family to continue his legacy and give athletes this special moment to shine."
Coppinger, a 5-10 guard from Everson, Wash. (Nooksack Valley High School), will be staying in-state to come to Washington.
A four-star recruit, she was rated No. 35 in the ESPNW Top 100 rankings, and received a scout grade of 95 from ESPN. The two-time Northwest Conference Player of the Year led her high school team to their first-ever WIAA 1A State Championship last season, where she was named MVP.
The McDonald's All American Games Selection Committee will soon narrow down the list of nominees to the final 48 players named to the Games' final rosters. The top 24 girls and 24 boys will be revealed Tuesday, Jan. 24 on NBA Today between 12-1 p.m. PT on ESPN.
