PROMOTIONAL SCHEDULE

SEATTLE -- Leslie Gabriel leads the Huskies into her first home opener as Head Coach this week, twenty-two years after she first sat on the bench as an assistant coach. In Thursday night's home opener against Memphis, Gabriel will be the one making the short walk to midcourt in front of the Dawg Pack. Although Gabriel and the Huskies already have four wins under their belts, it will be another milestone for the program which has not been led out by a female head coach since 1991.
Washington plays host to the Husky Invitational starting this Thursday, Sept. 7, which will feature Memphis, UNLV, and Florida International. UW first takes on Memphis at 7 p.m. on Thursday, then on Friday night the Huskies battle the Rebels again at 7 p.m. Saturday is an off day before the tournament concludes on Sunday with UW vs. FIU at 12 noon. All matches will be streamed live on GoHuskies.com.
Since dropping a tough five set opener the Huskies have won four straight matches and continue to receive votes in the AVCA top-25. Despite working five new players into the rotation, the Huskies have come together quickly as a unit, hitting .242 on the season and holding their opponents to a .171 mark. Washington ranks seventh in the NCAA with 2.47 aces per set, and is averaging an identical 2.47 blocks per set despite a nearly entirely new group guarding the net.
Three different Huskies are avraging at least 3.00 kills per set: Audra Wilmes (3.00), May Pertofsky (3.22), and Madi Endsley (3.29). In her first season running the offense as starting setter, Molly Wilson has 8.16 assists per set and three double-doubles. Lauren Bays has also gotten off to a great start through two weeks, digging 4.53 per set, a career-best rate.
Memphis, members of the American Athletic Conference, comes into week three with a 2-4 record. The Tigers' two wins came in their first two matches over Alcorn State and Samford. Memphis was 18-15 a year ago. Tabytha Toelke is leading the attack with 3.13 kills per set. Alexis Lewis is hitting .349 with 1.73 kills per set and Abigail Schlueter has an impressive 4.91 digs per set.
UNLV is 2-3 to start the season and has already faced two Pac-12 teams, defeating Colorado in the season opener, 3-1, and falling against Utah, 1-3. A year ago, UNLV had an excellent 26-5 season and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, falling in the first round against Washington State. The Rebels were the Mountain West Conference preseason favorites this year. Senior Isabel Martin is the reigning MWC Player of the Year and Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos was also First Team All-MWC last year. Martin had 28 kills on .658 hitting in the win over Colorado and she is averaging 4.55 kills per set. Former Husky Olivia Mikkelsen is a Rebel this season as well.
Florida International is off to a 2-5 start but has played a challenging schedule, with all five losses against Power Five conference teams in Miami, UCF, Maryland, Mississippi State, and Wake Forest. Starting setter Gianna Tagoa'i was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week. Jade Sadeiko is leading the team with 2.82 kills per set while hitting .288. Amber Beals has posted 10 aces through the seven matches thus far.
