Dominances on the Mound Carries Washington to 3-0 Extra Inning Win at No. 7 UCLA
March 25, 2023 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – It was another pitcher's duel Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium but this time the Dawgs came out on top as Washington (15-6, 3-2 Pac-12) took down No. 7 UCLA (16-4, 6-2 Pac-12) 3-0 in 10 innings.
Stu Flesland III exited after five plus scoreless innings, taking a no decision despite allowing just three hits and recording five strikeouts. Reilly McAdams retired all six men he faced before turning things over to Josh Emanuels, who finished the final three to collect the win.
Flesland had to work out of some trouble in the first before settling in, loading the bases with one out before flagging down a grounder himself and tossing to first for the third out.
While the lefty retired the next nine men he faced, the Huskies put themselves in position to break through in the sixth, loading the bases but failing to cash in.
After allowing the first two batters of the bottom half of the sixth to reach, Flesland handed the ball to McAdams. The redshirt-sophomore came through with the goods, getting the Dawgs out of dodge and keeping the game scoreless.
Washington put a pair of runners on in both the seventh and ninth innings but couldn't break the deadlock. However, Emanuels continued to set them down on the other side, sending the game into extras.
That's when the Huskies pounced. After UW loaded the bases on three straight singles, Cam Clayton put the Dawgs ahead with a fielder's choice before Will Simpson pulled a double to left to drive in a run. Johnny Tincher's RBI single finished things off, making it 3-0.
Emanuels finished things off, punching out two batters and inducing a ground ball to Michael Snyder at third to hand the Huskies their first ranked win of the season.
