Jared Engman was effective over his five innings, receiving a no decision with three runs allowed on four hits, striking out three. Sam Boyle earned the win in relief, while Case Matter locked down the save.
Β
After threatening but failing to score in the first two innings, the Huskies strung together three-straight knocks to leadoff the third inning and grab the lead.
Β
Following a Cam Clayton single, Will Simpson and Johnny Tincher hit back-to-back doubles, with the latter plating a pair to put Washington ahead 2-0.
Β
The lead would only last an inning and a half as the Bruins went station-to-station in the fourth, ultimately scoring three times to turn the score in their favor.
Β
The Dawgs remained resilient, with Simpson driving in Jeter Ybarra with a single up the middle in the sixth, leveling the score at three runs apiece.
Β
Following a 1-2-3 inning from Boyle, the Huskies stayed hot and batted around in the seventh, turning a tied game into a huge lead.
Β
AJ Guerrero got things started with an RBI single the other way, bringing in Coby Morales who led off with a double. Pinch hitter Dalton Chandler snuck a hard liner just inside the left foul line, bringing around Guerrero and Michael Snyder, scoring later on Clayton's single to right.
Β
With four runs in already, Simpson hammered a ball the other way, clearing the fence in right-center for his 10th dinger of the season. Guerrero finished things off with his second RBI single of the inning, bringing the run total for the frame to seven and putting UW ahead 10-3.
Β
The Bruins also didn't back down, sandwiching a single Husky run with back-to-back frames with a three-run homer, closing the gap to two runs in the bottom of the eighth. With the tying run on first, Jason Kelly turned to his closer to get the final five outs.
Β
Matter surrendered a walk and a single, allowing a Bruin run to bring it to a one-run ball game, but settled in and got out of the jam with the lead intact, leaving the bases loaded. Matter sealed the deal in the ninth, drawing two fly outs before punching out Jon Jon Vaughns to lock down the series win.

QUICK HITS
β’ With the win, Washington secured its third consecutive series win over UCLA. The Huskies have won seven of their last nine against the Bruins.
β’ The 21 hits UW racked up were its most against UCLA since at least 1999.
β’ Each of Washington's 1-7 hitters recorded multiple hits, led by Cam Clayton's 4-for-6 performance.
β’ Seven Huskies either matched or set their season high for hits in a game.
β’ Will Simpson's seventh inning home run was the 28th of his career, moving into a tie for eighth most in Washington history.
β’ Simpson finished a triple short of the cycle, driving in three runs and scoring two more.
β’ Entering the inning 0-for-his-last-14 at-bats, AJ Guerrero registered a pair of RBI singles in the seventh.
β’ Case Matter secured his fourth save of the season. The redshirt sophomore has not allowed a run in his last seven starts and sports a very nice 0.69 ERA.
