SERIES HISTORY VS. UCLA
Built in large part by winning the first 17 meetings of the series, UCLA is 55-28 all-time against Washington. The Bruins have dominated on their home field, winning 33 of the 46 meetings between the two sides in Los Angeles. However, Washington has won five of its last seven against UCLA, including taking 2-of-3 at Jackie Robinson Park in 2021.
PARTY LIKE IT'S 1994
Washington's 14-5 start is tied for its best through the first 19 games of a season in nearly 30 years. The Huskies last got off to a hotter start in 1994, beginning that campaign 16-3. U Dub has won 26 of its last 31 games during the regular season and has won each of its last four Pac-12 series.
CLAYT-ON FIRE
Cam Clayton is riding a nine-game hitting streak and has recorded a base hit in all but one game this season. During his current streak, the Oregon native has posted multiple hits six times, including a pair of three-hit games. The Husky leadoff has demonstrated his power too, with nine of 17 hits during the streak going for extra bases.
WILL POWER
Pummeling a pair of big flies against Tulane, UW slugger Will Simpson took over sole possession of the Pac-12 with nine homers this season, ranking 14th in the nation. It was the first multi-homer game of Simpson's career and also moved Simpson into a tie for 10th place all-time at Washington with 27 career home runs.
When Simpson registers hits, they come in bunches. He has recorded 10 two-hit games this season, compared to eight games in which he has registered less than two base knocks. The Sammamish, Washington, native has produced four games without a hit and four with one.
CASE CLOSED
When righty flamethrower Case Matter is summoned from the Husky bullpen, a Washington victory is nearly a matter of fact. The UW closer has made six straight appearances without allowing a run, totaling 8.1 innings. During the stretch, Matter has struck out 13 batters, while issuing just a pair of hits and seven walks, collecting three saves this season.
ONE-TWO PUNCH
Coming at you from the right and left side, respectively, starters Kiefer Lord and Stu Flesland III pose a daunting task for opposing offenses. Flesland ranks second in the Pac-12 with a 2.48 ERA, sitting sixth in the league with 33 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Lord is close behind in fifth with a 2.60 ERA and ranks fifth in the conference with 35 strikeouts.
