December 02, 2023 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington women's basketball (8-0, 0-0) defeated San Francisco (2-6, 0-0 Big West) 63-39 Saturday afternoon in Alaska Airlines Arena.
In their first game back at home after winning the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honoulu, the Huskies started the game on a 10-0 run.
Elle Ladine got the scoring started with a nice take, and was already in double digits by halftime. Ladine finished with a game-leading 16 points, game-leading 10 rebounds, and her second career double-double.
The Huskies did a good job of finding each other, and that was put on display when Hannah Stines stole the ball and threw a long pass down the court to Lauren Schwartz, who completed the play with a layup. Stines finished with seven points and two steals, and Schwartz finished with seven points and three assists.
Washington held San Francisco to just two made field goals (14.3%) in the first quarter while the Huskies shot 57.1% for the 16-7 lead.
In the second quarter, the Huskies held the Dons scoreless through 5:47 to start, and then UW went on a 7-0 run over 2:14 to go into halftime with the 28-13 lead. It's the second time this season the Husky defense has allowed only 13 points in a half. Washington held USF to just 14.8% field goal shooting in the first half.
The Huskies went on a roll, with Schwartz putting up a three for the first points of the second half, Ladine grabbing a steal and score opportunity, and Stines sinking a three. Teagan Brown tied her career high scoring with nine points.
