
Huskies Defeat Montana State On Montlake

SEATTLE – Washington women's basketball (9-0, 0-0) put up a gritty fight to defeat Montana State (3-5, 0-0 Big Sky) 55-50 Tuesday night in Alaska Airlines Arena.
The win extends Washington's season-opening win streak to nine, the third time in program history the Huskies have done so, and their best season start since UW went 10-0 to begin the 1997-98 season.
Dalayah Daniels got the scoring started with a layup, and was in double digits in the third quarter. Daniels finished with a game-leading 15 points, and added five rebounds and two blocks.
Lauren Schwartz sunk a three in the first quarter, and was already in double digits before halftime. Schwartz hit her second three-pointer of the night in the second quarter to record career made three No. 150. Schwartz finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
Washington went into halftime with a 30-25 lead. The Husky defense held MSU to no made three-pointers in the first half.
Hannah Stines had already tied her career high rebounds with seven in the first half, and her layup in the third quarter got the scoring started in the second half. Stines quickly recorded her eighth rebound of the game, setting a new career high, and went on to record a game-leading 11 rebounds.
It was a fight as the Huskies held onto a two-point lead going into the final quarter.
Elle Ladine hit a three to go into double digit scoring and put the Huskies up by 10. Ladine was the third Husky to finish in double digits, finishing with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Washington out-rebounded Montana State 38-22, and the 50 points by MSU were the fewest points the Bobcats have scored so far this season.
Next up, the Huskies travel to Pullman to take on No. 21 Washington State in the Boeing Apple Cup Series matchup on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. PT. This is the first conference game of the season to break up the non-conference schedule.
