Huskies Drop Tight Contest To UCLA

SEATTLE – The Washington women's basketball team wrapped up its weekend on Sunday afternoon against UCLA at Alaska Airlines Arena.
While the Huskies set a season-high in made three-pointers with 11 and led by as many as 7 points in the second half, the Bruins would ultimately win by a score of 69-61.
"I'm very encouraged about what we do each game. There's growth each game," head coach Tina Langley said. "When you're new at everything… It just takes a while to keep learning. I'm really proud of our continued work ethic, growth and commitment to the process that our young ladies have really committed to."
The Huskies were on fire in the first half, draining eight three-pointers and taking a 37-32 lead into the locker room.
Haley Van Dyke (3-3), Lauren Schwartz (2-2) and Nancy Mulkey (1-1) all led the charge from deep in the first 20 minutes, with Schwartz (12) and Mulkey (10) scoring in double figures.
The Huskies also dished out nine assists and added two blocks and three steals.
In the second half, a Van Dyke layup would put Washington up 39-32 for its largest lead of the afternoon.
Soon after, the Bruins would go on a run to take the lead and ultimately hang on to defeat the Huskies.
Three Washington players scored in double figures, with Schwartz scoring 17 points on 7-11 shooting while also dishing out four assists. Van Dyke added 12 points with seven rebounds and four assists of her own, while Mulkey finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
"Where we're at is just trusting the process and really staying together," Mulkey said. "We're just trusting the process and trusting each other, and it will come."
The Huskies return to action on Friday night, hosting No. 6 Arizona at 7:00 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena.
