December 18, 2022 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – The Washington women's basketball team (8-2) dropped a hard-fought contest 54-66 to Liberty (5-5) Sunday afternoon to open the Husky Classic at Alaska Airlines Arena.
"I loved our toughness at the end of the game. We never quit. I liked the way we battled, and I think that's a good sign for us going forward," head coach Tina Langley said.
Haley Van Dyke led the Huskies in scoring with 13 points. Hannah Stines was the other Husky in double digits with 12. Stines also recorded a career high three steals.
Jayda Noble had a solid afternoon, posting seven points and eight rebounds in a physical game. Lauren Schwartz (eight points, two steals) and Dalayah Daniels (eight points, six rebounds) were also solid contributors.
The Huskies fought all game long, and showed their grit through strong takes to the basket, continuing to work together, and unselfish play-making.
Credit to Liberty, who shot well to give themselves the edge.
"I thought they came out and played a great game," Langley said. "Coach [Carey] Green has been there a long time and I think he does a tremendous job."
Washington showed toughness and poise, and are set to bounce back in just a couple of days.
"We'll just come back and bounce back better." Van Dyke said.
Schwartz echoed her teammate's sentiment.
"I know we're tough, and I know we'll stay tough. We don't give up," Schwartz said.
