SEATTLE - Week two of the reconfigured 2021 volleyball season sends the Huskies out of state for the first time since the NCAA Regional round in December of 2019. 11th-ranked Washington will get to warm up a bit in the desert as the Huskies take on Arizona inside McKale Center on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30.
Friday's match, a 4 p.m. Pacific time start, will be UW's first appearance this season on the Pac-12 Networks. Greg Mescall will have the call on Pac-12 Washington. Saturday's 5:30 p.m. match will be live streamed on Arizona's website.
This will be the second-straight week where UW has played consecutive days; after this week UW will have a day off between its weekly opponents.
Washington split its opening weekend series with Arizona State this past Friday and Saturday, dropping the opener in straight sets but then regrouping to take the rematch in four sets. Samantha Drechsel showed her six rotation prowess on Saturday setting a career high with 18 digs and tying her career-high with 21 kills, while Ella May Powell dished 51 assists on Saturday after the Huskies experimented with a 6-2 in Friday's opener. Shannon Crenshaw handled libero duties for all of Saturday's match and tallied 20 digs, and Lauren Sanders had 12 kills on 20 swings without an error to hit .600.
Arizona opened up with a tough pair of road matches at then-No. 10 Utah, dropping both in straight sets. Outside hitter Paige Whipple was a preseason All-Pac-12 Team pick for Head Coach Dave Rubio's squad. Dilara Gedikoglu led Arizona with 9 kills in the season opener, and Arizona rotated two setters against the Utes.
