SEATTLE – The final invitational of the Dempsey season is set for this Friday as Washington hosts the Last Chance College Elite Meet with several key events to watch. Also on Friday, the Huskies have their men's distance medley relay set to race for the first time this season at the JDL DMR Invitational in North Carolina.
Last but not least, Saturday in the Dempsey brings the Northwest's top high school talent to town for the UW High School Invitational.
The Last Chance meet gives athletes another dedicated chance at qualifying for NCAA Indoors, and other athletes will be tuning up for either the upcoming conference meet—the MSPF Championships—or looking ahead to the outdoor season. Action starts on Friday with the first field event at 2 p.m. and the first track event at 4 p.m. and competition should be concluded by 6:30 p.m.
In Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the JDL Fast Track, the Huskies will try to punch their ticket in the men's DMR. The invitational section is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Pacific time and the talented field will include BYU, Georgetown, Arkansas, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Virginia.
Saturday's High School Invitational begins at 9 a.m. and will go all the way until approximately 6:30 p.m.
The Last Chance Meet will have some sub-four mile attempts on the men's side. Freshman Luke Houser and sophomore Isaac Green and junior Nate Beamer will be in the top heat. Tanner Anderson and Jack Rowe will drop down to the mile in the first heat and be joined by incoming Husky recruit Leo Daschbach.
The men's 800-meters will have Devan Kirk and Daniel Maton chasing season-bests.
In the sprints, Khalil Winfrey will run the 60-meters and the 200-meters, while Jason Palmer and Evan Mafilas are both entered in the 200m and the 400m.
Parker Kennedy is in the 60m hurdles and high jump, while Ollie Thorner is entered in the high jump, long jump and shot put. Bryce Fausset will high jump, Sam Richmond will long jump, and Jaylen Taylor is entered in the triple jump. The men's pole vault has a field led by Chase Smith, currently ranked 12th in the NCAA, along with Zach Shugart, Sam Care, and Donald Jones.
Elijah Mason and Connor Jost, coming off PRs last week, will be in the weight throw.
On the women's side, the Huskies will have Imani Apostol, Olivia Ribera, Darhian Mills, and Sarah Stavig all in the 200-meters and 400-meters. Aaliyah Wilson will run the 200-meters and the 60m hurdles as well as long jump. Jelani Heath is in the 200m and the long jump.
Hannah Rusnak will high jump this week while Lyndsey Lopes is entered in the high jump and the long jump.
Four Dawgs will pole vault: Makenna Barton, Ashleigh Helms, Annika Dayton, and Kim Kramers.
Coming off a big PR at New Mexico, Makayla Kelby will be in the shot put along with Angel Nkwonta, with Nkwonta also in the weight throw. Rusnak will shot put as well. Freshman Beatrice Asomaning joins Nkwonta in the weight.
The women's distance crew will mostly be off from competing this week, with the exceptions of Anna Gibson and Shona McCulloch who are entered in the mile, along with unattached freshman Andrea Markezich.
