Dawgs Dominate In 5-0 Road Win
September 19, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SAN LUIS OBISPO, California – In the final game of their two-week road trip, the Washington Huskies won in resounding fashion 5-0 over the Cal Poly Mustangs. Three goals in the first half put the game out of reach quickly as Washington hounded the Mustangs constantly and held a heavy advantage in possession. Washington moves to 4-2-2 entering Pac-12 play next week.
Summer Yates scored her first career brace, surpassing her freshman point total in 11 fewer games. Kennedy Smith scored for the second game in a row, while Isabella Castro added her first goal of 2019. Ally Remington scored the first goal of her career late in the second half. Castro, Ameera Hussen, Karlee Stueckle, Mireya Grey, MaKayla Woods, and Helena Reischling all had assists.
The Huskies had an absolutely dominant first half to set the tone, with Cal Poly managing to make its way into the attack half just once in the game's first ten minutes. Washington would score twice in the first 20 minutes, scoring both in a three-minute flurry, and sent two balls off the goal frame after beating the keeper in the half as well. Another goal in the final minute of the first half made it 3-0.
In those first 45 minutes, Washington record 13 shots and six corners, its most shots in a first half since firing 19 against Oregon State last year.
The second half was much of the same, with the Husky offense just as dangerous as they added two more goals. Washington managed another 12 shots in the final frame while giving up just one shot on goal in those 45 minutes, with that shot coming in the game's last ten minutes. In all, Washington held Cal Poly without a shot on goal for almost 44 full minutes as they sealed the win.
