Washington Wins First Pac-12 Game 2-1
September 27, 2019 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – In the first game of Pac-12 play, the Washington Huskies kept their winning streak alive, downing the Oregon Ducks 2-1. Another first-half goal put the Dawgs on top, with an insurance goal in the second half proving the difference maker in a fast, furious game.
Vanessa Millsaps and Kennedy Smith had the goals for the Huskies, with Summer Yates earning assists on each. Millsaps had a particularly impressive goal, firing from well outside the box while falling over, sending an arcing shot high into the far corner of goal.
Siena Ruelas earned the win for the Huskies, who has allowed just one goal in the last two games. She would two saves, putting a stop to Oregon's best chance to tie with a diving, punching save across her body late in the second half.
"It feels good to start conference play out with three points and a win at home," said head coach Lesle Gallimore. "There are a lot of people who have come off the bench and played really really well lately."
