SEATTLE - The outdoor season revs up this week as the Huskies split up to head to Stanford and Texas for two big days of competition this Friday and Saturday. A group of Husky sprinters will head to the Texas Relays in Austin while the rest of the Dawgs will be competing at the Stanford Invitational.
While the Texas Relays are already underway, the Huskies will be competing only on Friday and Saturday. The Longhorn Network is scheduled to televise the main portions of the Texas Relays live.
The Stanford Invite, one of the most prestigious meets for distance running every year, will get going on Friday and be streamed live on Flotrack.
Heading to Texas is a group of sprinters including Iman Brown (100m, 200m Invite), Olivia Ribera (100m), and Hanna Tarleton (400m Hurdles Invite) who will run open individual events, and then Imani Apostol, Carolyn Birkenfeld, Jelani Heath, Sarah Stavig, and Raquel Tjernagel who will add to the relay pools as the Huskies look to turn heads in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400-meter relays. Heath is also slated to long jump.
Jordan Lucas and Khalil Winfrey are entered in the open 100-meter dash, but aside from that it will be a full relay focus for the men. They are also entered in the 4x1, 4x2, and 4x4, with Ryan Croson, Evan Mafilas, Jason Palmer, Kemuel Santana, Jacopo Spano, and Michael Thomas making up the assorted squads.
Stanford will see the start of the outdoor season for many of the Husky distance crew. Hannah Derby is entered in the 800m, Anna Maxwell, Allie Schadler, and Mikelle Ackerley are entered in the 1,500-meters, and the 5k is slated to include Camila David-Smith, Emily Hamlin, Hannah Waskom, and Nikki Zielinski. On the men's side, Nate Beamer, Devan Kirk, Nick Laccinole, and Keith Williams are all entered at 800-meters, with Laccinole and Beamer entered in the 1,500-meters as well. Julius Diehr, Andrew Gardner, Fred Huxham, Thomas Nobbs, Gavin Parpart, and Andy Snyder are all in various sections of the 5,000-meters.
It's certainly not all about the distance events at Stanford, however, as the Husky jumpers and throwers plus a few more sprinters will all be looking to make a mark in the Bay Area. A big group of vaulters includes Taylor Barnes, Blaise Black, Jacob Bowler, Lev Marcus, Parker Kennedy, and Zach Shugart for the men and Annika Dayton, Tori Franzen, Monica Cohen and Candace Ho for the women. Jaylen Taylor is entered in both the triple and long jumps.
The throwers will have Jonah Wilson in the shot put and discus, Jose Padilla in the discus, Connor Jost in the hammer, and Denham Patricelli, Draven Nevarez, and Jacob Wachtendonk in the javelin. The women go with Gina Flint in the shot and discus, Angel Nkwonta in the shot and hammer, Katie Wardsworth in the hammer, and Emmy Engle, Daisey Newman, and Katherine Taylor in the javelin.
Sprinters at Stanford include Oscar Herrera and freshman Aiden Basco in the men's 400-meter hurdles, and Morganne Hill, Carly Lester, and Darhian Mills in the women's 400-meter hurdles, with multi-eventer Hannah Rusnak in the 100m hurdles plus the long jump and 200-meters.
