SEATTLE - It's all happening in Oregon this week, as the Husky volleyball squad makes the trip down south to play in Eugene one day before the big gridiron tilt. The eighth-ranked Huskies face a tall task against the 20th-ranked Ducks, as Oregon comes in tied atop the Pac-12 with a 4-0 record. Washington will then head to Corvallis to take on an Oregon State team coming off its first Pac-12 road win. The match against Oregon is set for 8:00 pm this Friday and will air nationally on ESPNU, while Sunday's match-up with the Beavers will be on the main Pac-12 Networks channel, starting at 3:00 pm.
Washington (12-2, 2-2 Pac-12) has had time to practice and recover since the end of a stretch that saw them play four matches in nine days to start Pac-12 play. By the time Friday arrives, it will have been eight days since UW last played, a 3-1 win at home against Cal last Thursday.
Oregon has the longest winning streak in the Pac-12, having won 11 matches in a row since opening the season with two home losses to top-10 teams Texas and Florida. So far in conference, Oregon beat Oregon State and Cal at home, and won at ASU in five sets and at Arizona in four sets last week. The Ducks lead the Pac-12 in attack percentage by over forty percentage poings, hitting .313, with the Huskies second at .270. Oregon has had a balanced attack with a 6-2 with Maggie Scott averaging 6.91 assists per set and August Raskie averaging 5.28. Linsey Vander Weide leads teh team with 3.22 kills per set and hits .305, while freshman middle blocker Ronika Stone is second in the Pac-12 hitting .442 and she averages 2.30 kills per set, while fellow middle Kacey Nady also hits a strong .381. Senior libero Amanda Benson anchors the defense with a Pac-12 best 5.00 digs per set.
The Beavers got a decisive win at Arizona State in its last match to improve to 8-7 and 1-3 in conference play. Oregon State hit an excellent .390 in that match with Daniela Vargas hitting .750 with seven kills on eight attempts. But for the season OSU has hit just .220, 10th in the league. The Beavers have two of the most productive hitters in the league, as junior Mary-Kate Marshall is second in kills per set with 4.29 and sophomore Lanesha Reagan is seventh with 3.60. McKenna Hollingsworth is third in the league in assists per set with 9.90 and Kayla Ellis averages 4.08 digs per set to rank sixth.
