2016: Wrapped his outstanding Husky career with an NCAA victory during the indoor season, and a third consecutive Pac-12 title outdoors, becoming the first pole vaulter in Pac-12 history to win three consecutive conference titles … final meet as a Dawg was the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, where he finished a career-best fifth-place with a clearance of 17-10 ½ to pick up another All-America First Team honor, the fourth of his career … won his third consecutive Pac-12 title, as he cleared 17-8 1/2 at Husky Track for the victory ... took third at West Prelims to reach the NCAA Outdoor final site, getting a clutch third attempt make at 17-3 3/4 and then making 17-7 3/4 on his first try ... got a win at the Pepsi Team Invite at Hayward Field, going 17-2 3/4 ... in rain and wind in Pullman, won the UW-WSU Dual at 15-9 3/4, and also long jumped for the first time in his career, finishing third at 22-9 1/4 ... captured his first national championship in his final indoor meet, clearing 18-0 1/2 to win NCAA Indoors in Birmingham, Ala. ... his win was the fifth for a Husky men’s vaulter in the past 14 NCAA Indoor meets ... earned a third indoor All-America First Team honor ... qualified for nationals with a make of 17-11 3/4 to win the Husky Classic ... also got over 17-11 at the UW Invitational, winning once again ... was runner-up at the MPSF Championships with a best of 17-9 3/4.
2015: Successfully defended his Pac-12 pole vault title and made the podium for the first time at the NCAA Indoor meet during a great junior season ... at the Pac-12 meet at UCLA, he cleared a new career-best of 18-6 1/2 on his first attempt to punctuate the victory and become the first Husky to repeat in the event since Brad Walker in 2002-03 ... had a stroke of bad luck at the West Prelims in Austin, after clearing 17-0 3/4 on one try, he suffered a leg cramp at the next bar and was unable to push off on his subsequent attempts, costing a shot at NCAA Outdoors ... broke Brad Walker’s meet record in the UW-WSU Dual meet, winning with a make of 18-1 3/4 ... tied for fifth in the invite section at Mt. SAC Relays, clearing 17-6 1/2 ... started his outdoor season with a win at the Baldy Castillo Invite, clearing 17-4 1/2 for the victory ... indoors, made his second straight NCAA Indoor meet and moved up to fourth on the podium by clearing 18-0 1/2 at the national meet ... earned First Team All-America honors for the fourth-place finish ... won his first MPSF Championship title with a clearance of 17-11 3/4 ... opened his season with a win at the UW Indoor Preview, going 18-0 1/2 to match his indoor PR ... made 17-5 1/2 at both the Husky Classic and the UW Indoor Open, and also cleared 17-5 at the UW Invitational.
2014: The Pac-12 Champion in the pole vault, becoming the fourth different Husky to win the title in six years, with a winning clerance of 18-0 1/2 ... advanced to his first NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing 13th in Eugene with a best make of 17-8 1/2, earning Second Team All-America status ... reached NCAAs by clearing the top contested bar of 17-7 on his first try at West Prelims in Fayetteville ... has repeatedly raised his own Scottish National Record indoors and out, setting a new mark of 18-4 1/2 in winning the Ken Shannon Invitaitonal at Husky Outdoor Track on May 10 ... that mark ranks third in UW school history ... made a height of 17-6 1/2 at the Mt. SAC Relays, finishing fifth ... won the UW-WSU Dual Meet going 16-9 1/2 ... indoors, made his first NCAA Championships appearance and earned All-America First Team honors by tying for eighth-place, clearing a best of 17-8 1/2 ... had an indoor best make of 18-0 1/2 at the New Mexico Classic, moving to third on the school’s top-10 list ... also got the victory at the Husky Classic indoors, jumping 17-7 1/4 ... finished fourth at the MPSF Championships with a make of 17-4 1/2 ... was named Men's Team MVP and Men's Field Athlete of the Year at the team awards banquet.
2013: A great freshman campaign was enhanced over the summer as he vaulted 18-feet for the first time, going 18-0 ½ in a meet in Finland to become the fifth Husky ever over the 18-foot barrier … qualified for the European U23 Championships competing for Great Britain, and he took eighth with a make of 17-4 ½ … set the Scottish National Record for the first time at the UW-WSU Dual which he won with a clearance of 17-7 ¼ … he would raise that record the next week, going 17-8 ½ to win the Ken Shannon Invite … had a slip on the runway and hurt his shoulder at the Pac-12 meet, contributing to an eventual no-height … advanced to the NCAA West Prelims but was only able to clear 16-6 ¾ on that day in Austin, finishing in a tie for 31st … won the Trojan Invitational vault in his outdoor opener, going 17-2 ¾ … indoors, cleared a best of 17-0 ¾ at the National Pole Vault Summit … also went 16-10 at the UW Final Qualifier.
High School and Personal: Born in Glasgow, Scotland ... parents are Alison and Brian Thoirs ... has one younger sister, Rosie ... his father played soccer and mother was on the track and ski team at St. Andrews University ... one of the top junior pole vaulters out of Scotland ... Scottish Under-20 indoor record holder at 16-9 ¼ ... competed at 2012 British Olympic Trials ... second at the 2012 British Junior Championships in the vault ... was seventh at the 2011 British World Championship Trials, clearing 16-7 ... the United Kingdom School Games Champion in 2009 ... represented Great Britain at the Youth Olympic Trials in Moscow in 2010 ... placed second at the British University Indoor Championships in 2012 ... the top-ranked junior in the UK indoors in 2012 and eighth among all vaulters with a PR of 16-9 ¼ ... was the top-ranked junior in the UK in 2011 at 16-6 ¾ ...
