Huskies Assemble Strong Nonconference Slate

SEATTLE -- The full run of dates and foes for the 2025 Husky Volleyball season is set, as Washington is adding a challenging 10-match nonconference slate to its previously announced Big Ten schedule. Half of Washington's nonconference foes made the 2024 NCAA tournament. The 2025 home opener is officially set for Friday, Sept. 12, against former conference rival Arizona at 7 p.m.
Season tickets and Husky Flex Plans are currently on sale, with single-game tickets going on sale at a later date.
Prior to the official start of the season, Washington's first time taking the court this fall at Alaska Airlines Arena will be an exhibition against Portland on August 22, scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Dawgs will spend most of the nonconference season on the road, including in the opening weekend. Washington will play its first match of the year in Greeley, Colo. against Northern Colorado, on Aug. 29. One day later they will trek from Greeley to Fort Collins and take on Colorado State, on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Rams will be the first 2024 NCAA tournament team the Huskies face. The weekend ends with the Huskies back in Greeley, for a neutral match against Colgate, yet another 2024 NCAA tourney participant after winning the Patriot League.
Week two starts with another major challenge, and a third-straight 2024 NCAA tourney team, in a road match at SMU in Dallas on Thursday, Sept. 4. The Mustangs were one of the top-eight seeded teams in the tourney last year, advancing to the second round. In two neutral matches in Dallas on Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, the Huskies will face Stony Brook and Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa, the Missouri Valley Conference champs, was another tourney qualifier last year, earning one of the four No. 8 seeds, and pushing No. 1 Louisville to five sets in the second round.
Washington comes home in week three, taking on the Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. Arizona went 24-9 last year and won the NIVC. On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Huskies face another tough opponent in San Diego at 2 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena.
The Apple Cup of Volleyball continues, with UW visiting Pullman on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The Huskies and Cougars have continued their rivalry despite the lack of conference ties.
The nonconference finale is a big one, as Washington goes to Lexington, Ky. for a one-off against Kentucky, an Elite Eight participant a year ago. That match is set for Saturday, Sept. 20, at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Washington and Kentucky last met in the 2020 Final Four.
From there it's into Big Ten play for the Dawgs, starting on the road at Purdue on Sept. 25. With the home/road match-ups flipping from last season, the Huskies will be hosting several squads in Seattle for the first time as conference foes. Washington will host defending national champion Penn State (Oct. 17), as well as Elite Eight participant Wisconsin (Oct. 24) and tourney qualifier Minnesota (Oct. 18). Also coming for a first B1G trip are Ohio State (Oct. 3), Iowa (Oct. 4), Michigan State (Nov. 7), and Michigan (Nov. 20).
With five nonconference teams making NCAAs one year ago, and eight Big Ten opponents also last year's field, Washington will have a total of 15 out of its 30 total matches against 2024 tourney teams, with Oregon and USC on the schedule twice. They will have eight matches against teams that ranked in the top-15 of the final 2024 AVCA poll.
