Dawgs Dominate In 80-54 Win Over San Jose State
December 01, 2025 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE — It was a night of impressive shot-making for the Washington women's basketball team (8-0, 0-0 Big Ten), as the Huskies defeated San Jose State (0-6, 0-0 Mountain West) 80–54 Monday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Washington recorded its second-best 3-point percentage of the season (40.9%) and caught fire from the field in both the second (55.6%) and fourth (54.5%) quarters. A 26–11 advantage in the second quarter allowed the Huskies to pull away and control the remainder of the game.
UW dominated the glass, outrebounding the Spartans 49–28. The Huskies were especially effective on the offensive boards, grabbing 22 and converting them into 30 second-chance points.
Sayvia Sellers was exceptional, finishing with 29 points on 9-for-16 shooting. The junior knocked down five 3-pointers, including three in the second quarter, and added six rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. Her second triple of the night marked her 900th career point as a Husky.
Avery Howell turned in her third straight double-figure performance, totaling 17 points to go with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. She drew the loudest roar of the evening when she drilled a 3-pointer while being fouled and completed the four-point play.
Freshman Brynn McGaughy continues to look like a veteran on the floor, adding 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting. She led the Huskies with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Washington totaled 13 assists on the night, with Devin Coppinger dishing out three to go along with six rebounds and four points.
Up next, UW heads to Los Angeles to face USC on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 5:00 p.m. in the Galen Center.
