
No. 21 Washington Falls In Defensive Battle At No. 16 USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — No. 21 Washington women's basketball (8-1, 0-1 Big Ten) fell in a tough battle to No. 16 USC (7-2, 1-0 Big Ten) 59-50 Sunday night in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Huskies came out of the gate battling, holding the Trojans to just four points in the first quarter. USC missed 12 of its 14 shots en route to its lowest quarter total of the season.
Washington's stifling defense continued throughout the evening, with the Huskies limiting the home side to their second-lowest point total. The Trojans only knocked down two 3-pointers, and were limited to their third-lowest shooting percentage (38.3%).
Avery Howell fired up her squad with a number of clutch shots down the stretch as Washington closed in on USC's lead. She finished with her first double-double for the Huskies after recording 16 points and a game-leading 13 rebounds. She also added two steals and two assists.
Sayvia Sellers matched her total from behind the arc, knocking down three 3-pointers in another 20 point effort for the junior. It's her fifth time this season scoring at least 20 points, and eighth time leading the Huskies in scoring.
The Huskies forced 13 turnovers in total, notching nine steals and five blocks. Senior Hannah Stines led the team with four assists.
Up next, Washington returns to non-conference play, taking on Green Bay on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 12:00 p.m. PT in Alaska Airlines Arena.
