โข UW is receiving votes in the most recent USA Today Coaches Poll and the NCBWA Poll. The Dawgs are ranked No. 11 in the West by D1Baseball.
SERIES HISTORY VS. UTAH
In the somewhat brief history of the Washington vs. Utah series, compared to other Pac-12 opponents, the Huskies have fared relatively well, holding a 24-11 advantage in the 35-game history of the series. The Dawgs have won 11-of-15 matchups in Seattle, including taking 2-of-3 games with a pair of one-run victories at Husky Ballpark in 2021.
THROUGH THE QUAD
Washington is one of the hottest teams in the nation, winning nine straight games. The streak is the longest in the Pac-12 and eighth longest in the nation. Dating back to the 2022 season, the Huskies have won 22 of their last 24 games during the regular season.
CHIEF KIEF
After throwing six perfect innings with 10 strikeouts in last Saturday's 6-0 shutout win over Northern Colorado, Kiefer Lord caught the eyes of the nation. The righty was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, the first Husky to receive the honor since Josh Burgmann in 2019. Lord also garnered Perfect Game's National Pitcher of the Week, becoming the first Dawg to earn a national pitching weekly award since Joe DeMers in 2018, and was one of four nominees for the Golden Spikes Performer of the Week. The San Carlos, California, native has allowed just one run over his last two outings, going six complete frames in both.
THAT'S OFFENSIVE
The Dawgs put up astonishing numbers during their four-game series with Northern Colorado. Most notably was the school-record 32 runs scored in the series opener. Those 32 runs are the second most scored by one team in an NCAA Division I game this season (William & Mary, 33 runs) and more than 18 teams have scored all season. However, the gaudy numbers don't end there.
The Huskies outscored the Bears 57-12 for the series, batting .388 as a team with 15 doubles, six home runs, 51 RBIs, 26 walks, 16 HBPs and a .513 team on-base percentage. Five different UW players raised their batting average by at least 50 percentage points, including McKay Barney (500), Sam DeCarlo (140), AJ Guerrero (92), Cole Miller (75) and Johnny Tincher (73).
ONE-TWO PUNCH
Coming at you from the right and left side, respectively, starters Kiefer Lord and Stu Flesland III pose a daunting task for opposing offenses. Lord ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with a 1.59 ERA, while the flamethrower's 26 strikeouts is good for the second most in the league. Meanwhile, is close behind in seventh with a 1.69 ERA and ranks fifth in the conference with 24 strikeouts. Lord and Flesland rank second and third in the Pac-12 in WHIP at 0.71 and 0.75, respectively.
THE PEN IS MIGHTIER
The combination of Josh Emanuels and Case Matter has been a dynamic one at the back end of Washington's bullpen, with both picking up two saves on the year. Emanuels has yet to allow an earned run through six appearances and 10.2 innings, striking out 13 and allowing just four hits. Meanwhile, Matter has surrendered a single earned run over 9.0 innings on five appearances and 9.0 innings, striking out 13 batters.
PATIENCE PAYS
Both AJ Guerrero and Coby Morales rank inside the top-10 in the Pac-12 walks, with Guerrero ranking second in the league with 14 free passes and Morales close behind in fourth with 11 bases on balls.
THE KID'S CLUTCH
Freshman Sam DeCarlo has made his biggest impact this season in the biggest moments. DeCarlo is batting .421 with runners on base and .500 with runners in scoring position, compared to just .250 with the bases empty.
STARTING STRONG
The Dawgs have gotten off to fast starts to innings, having the leadoff hitter to a frame reach 45.7 percent of the time. 10 different Huskies are reaching base at least half the time when leading off an inning. The next step will be to capitalize on those opportunities as just 23 of the possible 48 baserunners have come around to score.
HOMEGROWN DAWGS
Nearly half of the Husky roster, 19 of 39 players overall, are homegrown talents from the state of Washington. Of those 19 local products, 16 hail from the greater Seattle Metropolitan area. Below is a breakdown of the counties UW's Washington natives call home.
