Dawgs Drop Three Bombs in 12-6 Win Over Rhode Island

Stu Flesland III earned his third win of the season, going six strong with three runs on five hits, striking out seven. Reilly McAdams collected seven outs in relief with three runs allowed, while Isaac Yeager came on to finish things off in the ninth.
A leadoff home run from URI's Mark Coley gave the Huskies an early deficit to overcome but it didn't take long to do so as Johnny Tincher clobbered a solo homer over the scoreboard in left.
The very next inning, Sam DeCarlo's RBI single gave UW the lead before Cam Clayton sent a towering shot into Union Bay in the third to put the Huskies up 3-1.
The Rams struck for two in the fourth to draw the score level but that didn't last long. With a runner on first, Michael Snyder shot a laser over the fence in left center to reclaim the lead for the Huskies. Back-to-back doubles by Clayton and Will Simpson followed to plate three and by innings end, the Dawgs had scored five to make it 8-3.
In the sixth, Coby Morales shot an RBI single up the middle to bring around Tincher and AJ Guerrero took advantage of a Rhode Island fielding error to come home as well, sliding around the tag at home plate to push the score to 10-3.
The Huskies added a pair of runs in the eighth and URI countered with three of their own in the ninth but it was too little, too late as U Dub evened the series.
QUICK HITS
• Four of Washington's first five runs came via the long ball. U Dub's three home runs were its most in a game since hitting four in the season opener against Santa Clara.
• Cam Clayton's third inning bomb was his fifth of the season, surpassing his total from the entirety of the 2022 season.
• Six different Huskies recorded multiple hits in Clayton, Johnny Tincher, AJ Guerrero, Michael Snyder, Cole Miller and Sam DeCarlo.
• Saturday's affair was the eighth time in the last 10 games that the Huskies have reached double digit hits.
• In five starts this season, Stu Flesland III has not allowed more than three earned runs in a single outing, pitching at least six frames four times.
