SEATTLE – Washington (12-4) came up on the wrong end of a back-and-forth battle Friday night, falling 9-6 to Rhode Island (4-9) at Husky Ballpark.

Starter Kiefer Lord took a no decision, allowing four runs over five plus innings. The Huskies utilized four arms out of the bullpen, with Josh Emanuels wearing the loss with a single run allowed.

After the Rams got on the board in the top of the first through a Michael Anderson RBI single, the Dawgs responded immediately. Will Simpson took the second pitch he saw to left field and hit it a long way, tagging the scoreboard to deadlock the score at a run apiece.

Two innings later, Simpson followed up Cam Clayton's double with an RBI groundout, plating Sam DeCarlo and giving the Huskies a brief lead.

However, Rhode Island brought home three in the top of the fourth, highlighted by an Eric Genther two-run homer that put the road side up 4-2.

Washington once again had an answer immediately, scoring two on Michael Snyder's sacrifice fly to left and a URI fielding error to draw the score level once again.

The Huskies started the fifth fast with singles by Clayton and Simpson and both came around to score eventually, Clayton on Coby Morales' grounder and Simpson on a wild pitch, to reclaim the lead for UW at 6-4.

But the seesaw continued as the game wore on. Rhode Island plated two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, retaking the lead at 7-6 before back-to-back solo shots extended the advantage to three.

Washington put a pair of runners on for the top of the order in the 8^th and eventually loaded the bases but failed to capitalize as Rhode Island captured the series opener.
