
Washington to Host San Francisco for WNIT First Round

SEATTLE -- Washington women's basketball (15-14, 7-11 Pac-12) is postseason bound for the first time since 2017 after being selected as an automatic qualifier to the 2023 Postseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). This will be UW's seventh WNIT appearance. The last time the Huskies went to the WNIT was in 2014 when they made it to the Quarterfinals. The First Round matchup vs. San Francisco (19-12, 9-9 WCC) tips off Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. PT in Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The game will be aired on the Washington Live Stream (GoHuskies.com/Live) with Tellier Lundquist and A.J. Kanell on the call. Jason Dorow will call the action on 1090 KPTR-AM.ย
This will be the 10th meeting all-time between the programs, with UW leading the series 7-2 with a 3-0 advantage at home. The last time the two programs met was during the 2019-20 season when UW won at home.ย

Fans will see six new faces on the team this season, as the Huskies welcomed four freshmen from California - Hannah Stines, Teagan Brown, Shayla Gillmer, and Elle Ladine - and two transfers, Dalayah Daniels (Cal) and Emma Grothaus (Lehigh).ย

Washington women's basketball welcomed four new Huskies on National Signing Day (11.09.22) with ESPN.com's 14th-ranked recruiting class. This is the second class in a row ranked in the Top 15 that Coach Langley and staff have signed. The Huskies added four standouts to the program with Olivia Anderson, Chloe Briggs, Ari Long, and Sayvia Sellers.
On November 15, the Atlanta Tipoff Club named Long and Sellers to the 2023 Jersey Mike's Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year Watch List. Long and Sellers are two of the 50 girls named to the watch list. On January 11, Sellers was one of 25 named to the Naismith High School Midseason Team. On January 11, Briggs, Long, and Sellers were named 2023 McDonald's All American Games Nominees. On March 1, Sellers was named 2023 Jersey Mike's Naismith Girls High School All-America Honorable Mention. On March 9, Sellers was named the 2022-23 Gatorade Alaska Player of hte Year.
