No. 12 Washington Opens Pac-12 Play Hosting SDSU And UCLA

No. 12 Washington (5-1-0) returns home for the first time in nearly three weeks, opening Pac-12 play against San Diego State (2-2-1) on Thursday and UCLA (3-2-0) on Sunday. Both matches will be televised on the Pac-12 Network with a link to live stats available on gohuskies.com.

The San Diego State Aztecs At A Glance
The Aztecs come into the match with a 2-2-1 record, winning at UNLV and at home to Belmont, but losing to San Diego, Detroit Mercy and tying Santa Clara on Saturday. SDSU is even in scoring, recording 10 goals but also allowing 10. Leading the way is senior Pablo Pelaez with three goals and two assists on the year.
Series History vs. San Diego State
UW leads the all-time series 19-6-8 (12-2-2 under Jamie Clark) including a 9-1-4 mark in matches Seattle. The Huskies have won the last four matches between the two schools, outscoring SDSU 8-1 over that stretch. UW won 2-1 in San Diego last year and 2-0 in Seattle.
The UCLA Bruins At A Glance
The Bruins have played a challenging schedule so far, posting a 3-2-0 record. Their losses came at No. 4 Indiana (2-1 in 2OT) and a 5-1 home loss to No. 3 Georgetown. UCLA is coming off a 4-2 win at CSUN on Sunday and also has an big 3-2 win over Maryland under its belt. Junior Milan Iloski has had a part of nine of the Bruins' 10 goals this year, recording seven goals and two assists. He has scored six goals in his last three matches.

The Bruins hold a 32-16-3 edge in the all-time series though UW has won four of the last six matches since 2016. Last season, the Huskies suffered a tough 1-0 loss in Westwood despite holding UCLA to just four shots. But UW got its revenge in Seattle, pulling out a hard-fought 2-0 victory.
Gotta Get That First One
Washington continues to find success when scoring the first goal. Going back to last season, the Huskies are 15-1-0 when scoring the match's first goal with the lone loss coming in a double OT defeat vs Stanford. This season, UW is 4-0-0 when scoring first.
The bigger story, though, was that after allowing the opening goal against Denver, the Huskies pulled out the victory. That marked the first time Washington had won after allowing the first goal since Oct 1, 2017. The Huskies had lost their last nine matches when surrendering the first goal, and were 0-6-0 in 2018 in such matches.
Meek's A Goal-Scoring Machine!
Redshirt sophomore Lucas Meek made his first collegiate start at Seattle U and rewarded the decision with the match-winner in the 12th minute. It was Meek's third goal in UW's last four matches, giving him the team lead. Meek, who played just three minutes as a freshman last year, has played in 52 minutes this year, but has found the back of the net quickly in those minutes.
Spread The Wealth
The Huskies have scored 12 goals in six matches thus far with seven different players finding the back of the net. Lucas Meek leads the team with three goals with three others scoring twice. Meanwhile, 13 different players have tallied a point so far with Dylan Teves leading the way with five.
Clark Wins #100 at UW; Moving Up the Ranks
Jamie Clark picked up his 100th win at UW as the Huskies beat No. 18 Denver 2-1 in the season-opener on Aug. 30. With the victory he becomes the third coach in program history with at least 100 wins (Dean Wurzberger 220, Mike Ryan 105). He now needs just two more wins to become the second-winningest coach in program history.
As he enters his ninth season on Montlake, Clark is 104-43-20 (.683 winning percentage), with UW having won at least 12 matches in seven of his eight years at the helm. Entering the 2019 season, Clark's .686 career winning percentage was tied for the eighth-best among active NCAA Division I coaches and 40th among DI coaches all-time.
Teves Leads The Offense at Seattle U
Sophomore Dylan Teves had an impressive offensive performance at Seattle U on Sunday, scoring a goal and adding two assists in the Huskies' 3-0 win. The goal–a blast from the top of the box in the 24th minute–was his first of the season. His two assists gives him five on the year, which is tied for the most in the Pac-12.
French Records His First Goal
At Michigan, the Huskies' lone goal came from redshirt junior Kasey French, who joined the rush from his right back position, finishing with a great shot to the far post. French has been a mainstay on defense, amassing 1100 minutes over the last two years, but got his first goal in 31 collegiate matches.
Bodily Bringing In The Honors
Bodily was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list to start the year (awarded to the top college soccer player), becoming the first Husky since Cristian Roldan to earn that honor. In addition, Bodily was a preseason All-Pac-12 selection and earned preseason All-America honors from Top Drawer Soccer (3rd Team) and College Soccer News (2nd Team).
Bodily, a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 pick, scored two goals with four assists in an injury-plagued 2018 season after tallying three goals and a team-best eight assists en route to earning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors in 2017. This year, he has two goals and a two assists in four matches.
Fowler in Goal
Freshman netminder Sam Fowler made his second collegiate start at Seattle U, making one save to record his second shutout of the year. He earned his first collegiate start in Washington's 4-0 victory over San Francisco, becoming just the second freshman to make a start in goal for the Huskies since 2002. The only other freshman to start over that span was Spencer Richey (2010), who is currently the starting GK for FC Cincinnati (MLS).
Fowler, a Sounders Academy product, has seen time with the USL's Tacoma Defiance and also earned several call-ups with the US youth national teams prior to coming to Washington.
Early Road Trip Success
Washington wrapped up its first road trip of the year with an impressive 3-1-0 record with a pair of wins in Michigan and a commanding victory over its crosstown rival Seattle U. The four-game trip is the longest since 2012 when UW played five-straight away from home.
Logan/French on National Teams of the Week
Washington saw a pair of players earn National Team of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 8. Redshirt junior Bryce Logan made eight saves and posted a pair of cleansheets to lead the Huskies to wins at Michigan State and Michigan. For his effort, Logan was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
Fellow redshirt junior Kasey French earned Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week honors after scoring his first collegiate goal–the match-winner–at Michigan on Sunday. The stalwart on defense for the Huskies tallied his first goal with a brilliant finish to lead UW to the key road win.
Teves Earns National Recognition
Sophomore Dylan Teves earned an impressive honor this week, being named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending Sept. 1. Teves, who was a preseason All-Pac-12 pick, recorded assists on both of Washington's goals in its 2-1 win over Denver on Aug. 30. The sophomore appeared in all but one match for the Huskies as a true freshman in 2018, scoring five goals with two assists.
Soto Earns Freshman Honors
Freshman Christian Soto was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Best Freshman XI Team prior to the season. Soto comes to UW after playing for Crossfire FC with Husky teammates Charlie Ostrem and Ethan Bartlow and earned a USBNT call-up with the U17 National Team Camp in 2016.
Preseason All-Pac-12 Coaches Picks
The Huskies saw three players named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 team: junior Blake Bodily and sophomores Ethan Bartlow and Dylan Teves. In addition, UW was picked to finish second by the Pac-12 coaches, just six points behind Stanford and two points ahead of Oregon State.

Washington enters Pac-12 play ranked No. 12 in the latest NCAA/United Soccer Coaches poll released this week. The Huskies were also ranked No. 12 in the College Soccer News, but fell to No. 23 in the topdrawersoccer.com poll. Washington came in at No. 13 in the Soccer America poll.

- Washington picked up a big road win over cross-town rival Seattle U Sunday, beating the Redhawks 3-0 to reclaim the WAC/101 Club Cup Trophy.
