Charlie Kosakoff Sends Huskies To Elite Eight With 88th-Minute Winner
December 01, 2025 | Men's Soccer
STANFORD, Calif. – Charlie Kosakoff scored the lone goal in Washington's 1-0 victory over No. 12 seed Stanford on Sunday to send the Huskies to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.
Washington improves to 13-6-2 with the win, the eighth time the Huskies have won at least 13 games in a season under the direction of Jamie Clark.
The Huskies used a disciplined approach to take down the Cardinal, absorbing multiple blows in the first half without conceding a goal.
In the 31st minute, a Stanford goal was disallowed due to an offside player. Two minutes later, Harrison Bertos saved a shot on the goal line to prevent the opening goal.
In total, Washington faced 14 shots in the first half and Jadon Bowton made four critical saves to keep the match scoreless heading into the halftime break.
The game switched in the second half, however. Washington controlled more of the possession and grew into the game, asking questions of the Cardinal defense.
It came to a head in the 88th minute when Gabe Fernandez dribbled the ball down the left sideline. He started the buildup to Richie Aman and then Zach Ramsey who delivered the crucial left-footed cross into the box to find Charlie Kosakoff.
With three defenders around him, Kosakoff found the ball in the air and headed it to the far corner outside the reach of the Cardinal goalkeeper.
Stanford tried to rally late over the final 2:47 of the match, but the Huskies wouldn't be denied an Elite Eight berth.
Harrison Bertos, Egor Akulov, Charlie Kosakoff, Connor Lofy, Gabe Fernandez, Jadon Bowton, and Osato Enabulele each played the full 90. It was a career-high 90 minutes of action for the freshman Enabulele.
Kosakoff led the way offensively, tallying three shots, all of which were on goal, and the only goal in the contest.
Jadon Bowton collected his sixth clean sheet of the season in the win while facing a season-high 23 shots.
Washington returns to the national quarterfinals for the first time since 2021 and the fifth time in 15 seasons under Jamie Clark's guidance.
The Huskies will face Big Ten foe Maryland with a trip to the College Cup on the line. The two teams will face off in College Park on Saturday December 6 at 10 a.m. PT.
