
Huskies To Face No. 4 Maryland In NCAA Tournament Elite Eight

SEATTLE - The Huskies will take on Big Ten foe No. 4 Maryland on Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. Washington will make its third trip to College Park, Md. this season after traveling to the DC metro area for a regular season matchup with Maryland and for the Big Ten Tournament.

NCAA TOURNAMENT RUN CONTINUES IN COLLEGE PARK
The path to the College Cup continues in Maryland for the Huskies.
Washington enters the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament with a 13-6-2 record and a second place finish in the Big Ten regular season standings.
Of Washington's 30 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 2025, the Huskies have advanced out of the first round 20 times, a 66.6% rate. Washington now enters the Elite Eight for the fifth time in program history. The Huskies' 2025 NCAA Tournament run is the first time the team has advanced past the second round since the College Cup run in 2021.
SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS
Washington faces a familiar foe on Saturday, taking on Big Ten opponent Maryland.
Maryland, the No. 4 seed in this season's NCAA Tournament, advanced out of the third round with a 3-0 victory over UConn. The Terps needed penalty kicks to move past the second round over North Carolina after receiving a first round bye.
SERIES HISTORY
Washington owns a 1-3-0 mark in the all-time series dating back to 2015.
LAST MEETING (10/31/2025)
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – No. 14 Washington dropped its first game in over a month on Friday in a 1-0 defeat to No. 2 Maryland.
The Huskies move to 10-4-2 on the season and 7-2-0 in Big Ten play.
The two squads were well matched as each team traded blows throughout the first 45 minutes. The Huskies launched two shots in the first half compared to three from Maryland.
The game opened up more in the second half, however. Eight of Washington's ten shots came in the second period while the terrapins fired 14 shots over the final 45.
Cameron Cruz nearly had the Huskies in front in the 76th minute.
He began a run and went through multiple defenders into the box. Cruz then launched a shot on target, but the Maryland keeper was able to get a hand to it and keep the game scoreless.
In the 83rd minute, Maryland crossed a ball into the box where Jadon Bowton was unable to punch it clear after he collided with a Terps forward. Another Maryland player found the ball after the collision and poked it in for the only score of the game.
Washington continued to search for a goal over the final seven minutes and had multiple near misses.
Despite the loss, the Huskies are one of only three teams this season to hold Maryland to one or less goals. Jadon Bowton made four key saves on 17 shots, including a point-blank one-on-one stop to prevent a goal.
Washington used largely the same lineup for the full 90 minutes. Jadon Bowton, Harrison Bertos, Egor Akulov, Asher Hestad, Zach Ramsey, Alex Hall, Richie Aman, Cameron Cruz, and Connor Lofy each played the full 90.
Mani Diop and Nick O'Brien were the only substitutes used by the Huskies in the match.
ROAD DAWGS
The Huskies have claimed all three of their tournament wins away from Husky Soccer Stadium. Moreover, 2025 is the first season in which Washington has advanced to the quarterfinal round without a first round bye.
In three of Washington's previous four runs to the quarterfinals, the Huskies have played at least two games at home during the NCAA Tournament. The fourth occasion came in the spring of 2021, when all games were neutral site matches in North Carolina due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
KOSAKOFF STUNS STANFORD
Washington used a stout defense and clutch offensive play to secure an Elite Eight appearance with a 1-0 win over No. 12 seed Stanford last weekend. Charlie Kosakoff recorded the game-winning goal in the 88th minute, heading home a ball from Zach Ramsey. Gabe Fernandez was also credited with an assist on the play.Jadon Bowton and the Husky defense faced 23 shots and recorded five saves while earning their second consecutive postseason shutout. The Huskies move onto the Elite Eight for the fifth time in program history with the win.
TOP DRAWER PLAYERS
Four Huskies were named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week. Charlie Kosakoff led the way with a selection in the XI while Zach Ramsey, Jadon Bowton, and Harrison Bertos were each named honorable mention selections.
WONDER GOAL SENDS HUSKIES PAST SMU
Connor Lofy scored in his second straight game to secure a 1-0 win over No. 5 seed SMU on Sunday. Washington moves on to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with the win. The opener didn't come until the second half of the match. In the 72nd minute, Washington sent a corner kick into the box. It was headed out by the Mustangs, but only as far as Connor Lofy.
The Husky midfielder controlled the ball and turn to face goal before striking a looping shot into the air. It was placed perfectly – just out of reach of the goalkeeper into the top right corner.
HUSKIES WIN FIVE GOAL THRILLER IN FIRST ROUND
The Dawgs would not be denied on Thursday night, coming back from a goal down twice and scoring the golden goal winner in double overtime against No. 10 Oregon State. Oregon State scored to take the lead in the fourth minute, but Harrison Bertos connected off Zach Ramsey's corner kick to tie it up in the 57th. After the Beavers converted a penalty kick in the 77th, it was Connor Lofy who equalized again, this time in the 85th minute to knot the game at two. after a scoreless first 10 minutes of extra time, Richie Aman made a run down the left flank and flicked an outrageous ball into the far corner of the goal to clinch the victory for Washington.
CONSISTENCY IS KEY
With the win over SMU, Washington claimed its 12th win of the season, marking the 12th occasion in Jamie Clark's 15 years on Montlake the team has won at least 12 games. It's also the 12th time Clark has led the Huskies into the NCAA Tournament.
The last time the Huskies advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament was in 2021 when Washington made its first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship match.
HUSKIES CLEAN UP BIG TEN AWARDS
Eight Huskies claimed nine Big Ten end of season awards, the second most of any team in the conference. Richie Aman headlined the list, taking home the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year award while also collecting All-Big Ten First Team honors.
Harrison Bertos, Alex Hall, and Zach Ramsey each joined Aman on the All-Big Ten First Team while Jadon Bowton and Charlie Kosakoff were named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Asher Hestad earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team and Conner Leber was lauded as the Huskies' Sportsmanship honoree.

SPREADING THE LOVE
The Huskies have had seven different players score game-winning goals in the 2025 season. Charlie Kosakoff, Richie Aman, Zach Ramsey, and Harrison Bertos each have netted two game winners while Joe Dale and Connor Lofy have each added one.
17 players on Washington's roster have recorded at least one point this season while five different players are in double figures.
HERMANN TROPHY RECOGNITION
Richie Aman was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List thanks to his impactful play all season long. Aman currently is fourth in the nation with 11 total assists and ninth in assists per game at 0.55. His 19 total points are the sixth most in the Big Ten and 69th in the NCAA as well.
Aman has had multi-assists games on five occasions, including against both Rutgers and Indiana, and moves into a tie for fourth in the Husky record book for assists in a single campaign (11).
CLASS OF THE BIG TEN
Four of the top 10 players in total points in the Big Ten are Huskies. Charlie Kosakoff leads the team with 23 points (9g, 5a) and is third in the conference. Zach Ramsey (6g, 8a) is in sixth with 20 points and Richie Aman (4g, 11a) is seventh with 19. Alex Hall is 10th with 15 total points (4g, 7a).
As a team, Washington leads the conference in total shots (321), shots on goal (141), shots on goal percentage (43.9%), and corner kicks (141). The Huskies are also second in the Big Ten in goals scored (45) and goal differential (24).
Washington's 45 goals this season are the third-most the Huskies have scored with Clark at the helm.
INTO THE RANKINGS
The Huskies entered both the United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer rankings in week seven and have stayed in each poll since. This week, Washington is No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, No. 7 in the Top Drawer Soccer rankings, and No. 36 in the RPI.
OFFENSIVE OPPORTUNITIES
The Huskies have been applying the pressure in every game this season, recording more shots than their opponents in 14 of 22 games. Washington is 11-0-0 when scoring first and 8-1-0 when scoring in the first half.
As a team, the Huskies' offense ranks among the best in the country. Washington is sixth in total goals (46), ninth in total points (137), and 12th in total assists (48).
WASHINGTON STATS
In addition to its top-15 marks in total goals, points, and assists, Washington is one of the best teams in the nation across the board.
The Huskies are 11th in corner kicks per game (6.71), 14th in goal differential (24), 14th in points per game (6.52), 14th in scoring offense (2.14), 15th in shots on goal per game (6.71), 19th in assists per game (2.24), 20th in shots per game (15.29), 34th in winning percentage (.667), 39th in shutout percentage (.429), and 45th in team goals against average (0.993).
DAWG DEBUTS
12 Huskies have made their Washington debuts in the first two matches of the season. Levi Bieber, Brecken Bowers, Cameron Cruz, Clarens Dollin, Jaeger Felton, Carter Gay, Osato Enabulele, Sheehan Ganguly, Philip Kleeman, Zack Meier, and Kevin Hernandez, and Chad Sovde all featured during the first four games of the season.
BRICK WALL KEEPERS
While the Huskies offense has been hot lately, the defense has been just as impressive. Washington has shutout their opponents in seven of the last 12 games, including two postseason shutouts over No. 5 seed SMU and No. 12 seed Stanford.
Bowton has started each of the last 10 games, collecting seven wins over that span. The graduate student keeper was one save shy of his season-high, recording five stops against Stanford. Bowton has a 10-5-1 record this season with five shutouts.
Bieber has made five starts this season and has led Washington to three shutouts and a 3-1-1 record in those games. Bowton has made seven starts, earning a 4-2-1 record with two shutouts.
PICKED FIFTH IN CONFERENCE
Entering year two in the Big Ten conference, Washington was picked to place fifth in the 11-team league. The Huskies finished the regular season second overall in the Big Ten standings.
HOMEGROWN TALENT
Washington's roster features 19 of 29 players who hail from the state of Washington. Four players claim Seattle as their hometown (Asher Hestad, Joe Dale, Cameron Cruz, and Jaeger Felton), while two each are from Spokane (Kenny Pierpoint and Jadon Bowton), and from Bellevue (Sheehan Ganguly and Chad Sovde).
CREAM OF THE CROP
In 15 seasons on Montlake, Jamie Clark has orchestrated the meteoric rise of Washington men's soccer, distinguishing the team as one of the nation's top college soccer programs. Clark has led the Huskies to a record of 187-72-41, three Pac-12 titles, and 12 trips to the NCAA Tournament. Of those postseason appearances, Clark's Huskies have made five trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals, including three straight NCAA Quarterfinals appearances from 2019-21.
Clark currently ranks ninth in winning percentage among active head coaches with a .693 percentage in 18 career seasons.
