Lofy Scores Wonder Goal To Send Huskies To Sweet 16
November 23, 2025 | Men's Soccer
DALLAS – Connor Lofy scored in his second straight game to secure a 1-0 win over No. 5 seed SMU on Sunday. Washington moves on to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with the win.
The Huskies improve to 12-6-2 on the season with their second straight postseason road victory. It's the seventh time Washington has advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament under the direction of Jamie Clark.
Washington yet again was the aggressor, controlling much of the possession and staying on the offensive for the majority of the match. The Huskies launched 17 shots over the 90 minutes compared to SMU's eight.
Four of the Huskies shots were on target against only one on target from the Mustangs.
The opener didn't come until the second half of the match. In the 72nd minute, Washington sent a corner kick into the box. It was headed out by the Mustangs, but only as far as Connor Lofy.
The Husky midfielder controlled the ball and turn to face goal before striking a looping shot into the air. It was placed perfectly – just out of reach of the goalkeeper into the top right corner.
Washington improves to 10-0 on the season when scoring first.
The final 18 minutes saw the Huskies make life difficult for SMU while working to close out the game. After the goal, Washington still outshot the Mustangs 5-1.
The Huskies had multiple young players contribute key minutes in the match. Freshman Osato Enabulele earned his second career start and played 58 minutes.
Clarens Dollin added 25 minutes as a reserve while Zack Meier played the full second half. Kevin Hernandez also chipped in a career-high 32 minutes in the win.
Washington will learn its next opponent later tonight. The Huskies will face the winner of Kansas City and Stanford.
