UW Men's Soccer Heads To FISU America Games In Lima, Peru

SEATTLE - The national champion UW Men's Soccer team is set to begin the preseason trip of a lifetime. Washington will head to Lima, Peru on Wednesday to participate in the FISU (International Univerisity Sports Federation) America games, representing Team USA as a domestic national champion.
Washington is one of 10 teams that will participate and begin the tournament on July 22. The Huskies begin the tournament in the five-team group A, joined by National University of La Matanza of Argentina, University of Montreal of Canada, National University of San Marcos of Peru, and the University San Francisco of Quito of Ecuador.
Group B consists of the five remaining teams, including the Universidad Paulista of Brazil, Antenor Orrego Private University of Peru, the National University of Hermilio Valdizan of Peru, Universidad Católica del Maule of Chile, and the University of Trinidad and Tobago of Trinidad and Tobago.
Prior to beginning competition in Lima, the Huskies will visit Cusco, Peru, and experience the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Washington players will get to hike through the Andes mountains and learn about the history of the Incan civilization.
Following the trip to Peru, Washington will return to Montlake and begin preparations for the upcoming fall season. The Huskies face Western Washington in the first of two exhibition matches on August 13 before opening the season against San Diego on August 20.
