Huskies Clinch Series With Extra Innings Win
April 27, 2019 | Baseball
Kahle drove in three runs in the ballgame, while Bramasco had an excellent birthday by going 4-for-6 at the plate and scoring three runs.
Leo NierenbergΒ (3-1) earned the win, throwing three innings of relief, with six strikeouts and only allowing one run.
Jordan Jones started for the Huskies, going five innings, and allowing three runs.Β
Joe Wainhouse opened the scoring the bottom of the second with a solo home run to center, his seventh homer of the season and the second of the series. The Sun Devils (31-10, 12-8) responded in the third as Spencer Torkelson hit a long solo blast and Gage Workman drove in one on an RBI double.
UW tied the game up at two in the home half of the third when Kahle hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Bramasco. Hunter Bishop gave ASU back the lead on a 3-2 lead in the fourth on an RBI double.
Once again, the Dawgs responded. This time Braiden Ward scampered home on a passed ball, to knot the game up at three runs apiece. UW added three more in the bottom of the seventh on a Ward RBI infield single, a Kahle RBI single and a Colton Cassinelli RBI base hit to take a 6-3 lead.
The lead didn't last long as Arizona State promptly scored three runs of their own. Lyle Lin hit a pinch-hit 2-run home run and Trevor Hauver made it back-to-back shots.
Nine innings wouldn't be enough to decide a winner. The Sun Devils would go on to take a 2-run lead in the 10th on Lin and Hauver RBI doubles.
The Huskies wouldn't go down easily and once again battled back to plate two more to extend the game. Michael Petrie delivered a pinch-hit RBI single in the 10th and Bramasco tied it up on a RBI double.
In the 12th inning, it was a familiar story as ASU took the lead on a Lin solo home run.
Rollie Nichols lead off the bottom of the 12th with a base hit and moved to second on a Brandon Leitgeb ground out. Bramasco brought home Nichols with a sharp single, as the ballgame was tied once again. After a Cerrillo walk and a Ward hit by pitch, the bases were loaded for Kahle. He got the job done on a deep fly ball to right, scoring Bramasco and securing the UW victory.
The Huskies will look for the series sweep against the Sun Devils, on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
